Out of curiosity, how long do you keep an unclaimed saw for someone before you either claim it as yours or get rid of it?
I ask because I have a saw from an acquaintance that I have had for over a year that other than checking it out, I have no time or money in it. It needs a new cyl and piston, but he didn't want to put that much into it. I have been unable to reach him for 6 months now.
Again, I'm not in a hurry, but curious about y'alls thoughts on it.

Try looking up the saw's owner on Facebook or other social media. If that fails, see if local law enforcement can help you locate the owner or at least have the owner get in contact with you. Not sure how Georgia law works, but I'd say its abandoned property at this point.

You actually gave him an estimate and he stated that was more than he wished to spend? It is dis assembled?

Part of the problem with service at least the way It has appeared to me involves signing that if the thing gets stolen or burned the place I would leave it at isn't responsible. Not sure how legal this is but that is on the form to fill out when dropping off something.

In the dog kennel business it is necessary to send registered mail.

If he cared he would've got it back.
My local shop has dozens of saws trimmers push mowers
And riding mowers
Eating up space they are too lenient.
Another shop 30 day's which i agree with
Especially if you have a business to run.

If you have his address, send him a registered letter that requires a signature. If he signs for the letter, give him 30 days to come pick it up or your gonna trash it. If he signs and doesn't clam it, then do what ever you want to with it.
You might add a storage fee for the months he has abandoned it.

I don't have his address. Just a phone number. He doesn't have my address either, but my number hasn't changed. Oh, well. I'll just hang onto it for now. I'm still hoping to trade for his Poulan Pro 655

Any chance the saws owner may have gotten himself in trouble and landed in either prison or local jail? Also he may be hospitalized for something, or worse still may not even be with us any longer.

I'd still check social media. Its an excellent way to find folks who seem to have dropped off the face of the Earth. Another option would be your local law enforcement as I previously stated. They have additional tools that can help find people such as TLO.

At the very least, they can advise on your rights for abandoned property and how to proceed legally.

I hope he is alright. He was working for a company that clears lines for the power company. Nice guy. I'm not trying to screw him over or anything. Just don't want his saw sitting here for 5 years.
