Something's not right here. Wrong label on top, bars don't look like they're the right shape, is this one of the Chinese knock-offs?

One screw cap and one flippy. Recoil looks chinese. The bar lettering looks funny too, as do the labels.

I'd be very leery of that. The tank and the body are mis-matched but exactly the same color which is odd too.

I would not have learned to be suspicious of counterfeit saws had it not been for A.S. Of course, I probably would just have bought one or maybe 2 saws from a dealer.

Seriously, I have learned a lot here. Not sure what the actual story is on this saw, but I will never assume that just because it says 'STIHL' . . .

As much as Stihl saws cost, if I was the slightest bit suspicious of it I wouldn't buy..

I am not seriously interested in that saw. More interested in learning how to identify the counterfeit ones, and sharing this information.

The Chinese are getting better at their cloning, they can fool all but the hard core saw people. I hate to say it but the best way to be sure when buying a Stihl is to go to a Stihl dealer and buy it.

The color is usually off. Huskies are worse than Stihls for this. The decals always look funny. The bar lettering is always a little off. Lots of times they have incorrect fasteners holding them together. Little things.

If all the junkies here on A.S. only bought new saws the STIHL dealers would all be rich. (?)

I't one thing to avoid the too-good-to-be-true, new-in-the-box deals. I'd like to be able to spot used ones as well.

Theres a couple things here I don't trust, like the stickers and the MS026. A dealer blowing out some inventory ain't gonna screw that up. A guy that got bit on a knock off deal may try to legitimize it by adding some real stuff. Two bars and eight chains is over, at least very close to, $200 cost at a dealer, I'll bet. Wish I had a reason to investigate.

I wasn't saying that all here should go out and buy a new Stihl. I just meant that the dealer didn't have counterfeits. I've never bought but one new saw in my life and I don't intend to buy any more when we can get used ones to run just as good or better.

Did a STIHL MS026 PRO come with flippy caps?

How about one that looks brand new? (Should my Spider-sense be tingling?)

No such thing as an MS026. Its either an 026 or a MS260. A 026 has screw caps.

Looks like a shelf saw that may have been dropped and a ms260 rear handle installed, still has the screw cap on the oil tank. I think a ligit saw but would not pay more than $300 in that condition and that would be if it is as new as it looks.

I think Jim has it.....
