Why don't people take 5 minutes to sharpen a chain rather than writing "needs sharpened or replaced". Then, they could at least add "Freshly Sharpened Chain" to their ad.

Is it safety chain? Generally, if I am parting with a saw and it has safety chain, I don't sharpen it. I go under the assumption that they will be underwhelmed at the performance of safety chain and I'd rather not have them looking to me to make it cut like they think it should. Good or bad idea? I don't know.

Can U imagine someone buying a saw & never sharpening the chain? Possible, I suspect.
I do know of a dood that just buys another chain instead of sharpening them:msp_sad:

Echo chainsaw

Is that a ridiculous deal? it looks almost new. If it were new, I believe it'd be close to $400.

Thanks,
jeff

Edit, its at a pawn shop...

I stopped at a pawn shop I said I would not go into and they had a MS290 that looked fairly clean for $250. Seemed reasonable for pawn shop starting price until I pulled the starter cord. It had almost no compression.

There are some great deals at them but for every great deal there seems to be 150 bad ones ratio from what I have seen or put my hands on:msp_sad:

That would be me. I only use a brand new chain and when it gets to not cutting fast
enough I hang it on a nail and grab a new loop.

some day when I run out of new loops I will try my hand at sharpening. :jester:

Its an older saw but looks in nice shape.

I had a 4400 for a while and really liked it. Sold to a freind and it still runs great.

It's *chain* it will cut wood if it is sharpened correctly. You ain't doing any fancy triple reverse secret standing dutchdoods cootchiecoo bay bore cuts with it, but for basic cutting, "safety" chain still works. Why not sharpen it when you are selling a saw, unless you are selling it fresh dipped in stump mud "as is".

I agree with Zogger - Bad Idea.

When I sell stuff, I try to clean it, tune it, and present it in the best light as possible.

Low kickback chain cuts if properly sharpened. Demo a saw that you are selling with sharp safety chain and they can say or think, 'Wow! Imagine what it will do with hand filed, full chisel race chain that I normally run!'

Sell it with any kind of dull chain, and the potential buyer can say or think, 'What a dog! Is it the really just the chain, or maybe the saw doesn't have the oomph to even pull this homeowner grade safety chain!'

You call.

I think it looks like a POS. For all those that are not internet savvy, that means "piece of sh!t"

I think you have the right price Aaron....

Yep. The seller didn't agree however. He contered with an offer for $200 shipped...:dizzy:

Not sure if there was an error with your decimal point in your offer, but, $200 is a good price with free shipping. Thanks

Maybe that's why they're selling it. :msp_wink:

Sharpening a chain would require this thing call EFFORT, something our fellow countrymen are lacking. I just got a Foley sharpener and I'm thinking about running an ad to sharpen chains for $5 ea. The laziness of the human animal never ceases to amaze me.

It would pass the time. Figure it out hourwise, especially with .325, and a rocked out one at that. A shop here has paid off their Franzen(?) automatic rig, and charges almost twice that. At least he said its paid off.

But to find some beer money or pocket change, OK.
