Yeah, you got the sharpening thing down, thats for sure. Its sort of a right of passage for any real treeman in my book.

I'm pretty damn good at it too, theres always that once in a while where for whatever reason I'll screw one up though. I hate that.

No matter how "good" you sharpen them they usually relate different to different trees and whether they are alive or dead or rotten, etc. I usually like to take a little more off the rakers but if you got a real dead locust it gonna bounce big time. I always take a little raker off a brandy new ms200 chain right out of the box.

Yep. I usually leave the rakers alone if I've got a knarly old sugar maple or hickory (asssuming the chain's fairly new) and just touch up the teeth. Now if its a big white pine job....well, let em have a couple good hard swipes. but yeah, job specific sharpening is a luxury we have as owners TV...never thought of that.

Them little chains are a pita imho, cant stand em. I never thought of the rakers right out of the box though..interesting. I buy the stihl yellow labeled ones lately after a buddy turned me on to em. I actually purchased a raker gauge for the 200's just recently (havent tried it out yet) thinking I can more out of em but not wanting to risk a crooked pruning cut. To date I've just been sharpening them a couple of times and then tossing them.
