Tracking number sent in PM.

I keep watch......hopefully I can find the remedy!! I still got a 49sp here that has run me in circles...stihl ain't right...had to set one aside for a bit!!

Well I got to spend some quality time with the 910E the last couple days.....I am in the middle of a rather major boat project (mine) so couldn't get right into it.....but yesterday morning I cleaned out the gas tank which was about two steps this side of varnish...but very cleanable not that black stuff...gas line was turning to goo too....fuel filter had fallen down in the tank with a piece of rotted hose......cleaned that all up , new line and filter and a brandy new Total 20" bar and chain...gas and oiled her up...fired right up third pull....idled good......cut a half dozen 20" spruce cookies...ran great but the all of a sudden started skipping and wouldn't rev...then quit...sounds like ign....sat it on the floor and went to work on the boat....

We had a hurricane pass just offshore overnight and today so it was windy and rainy most of the day. I worked on the boat all day until about 4 Pm and the power went out at the shop....couldn't see aboard the boat so did a very small amount of varnishing and the tore back into the 910E......was just like almost every one of those I've seen.....it has the usual module by the flywheel but there is no high tension cable to the plug...just two 18 ga wires that run to the coil which is mounted on the sparkplug....the insulation just falls off these wires...not sure why...but lots of inches of bare copper wire......Unc. (Stihl 041S) came to the rescue again.......a while back he sent me a goodly supply of ...different size heat shrink tubing.....selected the smallest size I could get the ends through...slid precut lengths onto the old bare wires and put the torch to her....worked like a gem.....put it all back together...out the door started second pull reved out nice and idled perfect.....this saw has very , very few hrs on it....was planning on getting some pics but my camera needs to be plugged in...get some tomorrow when the power is back on.....very happy with this one.....parts list is; 8" fuel line, 1 fuel filter, a foot or so of heat shrink tubing and a choke pull....all in stock no waiting!!!!

I find the same thing in some of the old J'reds....a wire insulation that's turned to goo. That's awesome...you should be really happy it's not the module. Keep us posted on Dean's saw.....very curious as to what kinda spark issue he's having. I'm wondering if his coil is dead under the top cover....

Today universe willing(and people leaving me alone)....I'm going to polish the 2100 jug and reassemble with new rings.

001.JPG 003.JPG 004.JPG 005.JPG 007.JPG Some 910 E pics.......look at the bottom of this saw......it's not been hauled round much....and the front.....it hasn't even been used much....muffler is dented pretty bad....don't think it's original to this saw......got a nice dent free one that needs to be wire wheeled and painted....someday.....

Was using my 630 earlier today, rocked it so shut down and sharpened. I couldn't get it going after (would fire if choked and then first pull after but doesn't stay running). Did a search, someone suggested a plugged fuel filter.

Tried pulling the fuel line out of the tank, fuel filter popped off the line. Line is nowhere near long enough to pull it out enough to re-attach filter (stock molded line). How the heck do I get things back together?

Also, any ideas on the no-run condition? Filter was fine.

Thanks!!

Kevin, I didn't have a spark issue in the end, only with the NOS condenser but that was fixed.
However, I always seemed to have a fuel problem. Even when it did run a little, there was no acceleration like it was starved for fuel. And that was before the new piston and jug.

Very nice Robin. That's a helluva deal. You selling?

Trade ya my 90 plus cash. :)

Yeah sorry, didn't remember all the details. Now I remember the part about the condenser and then I posted some stuff on how to test a condenser. I remember you asking about rebuilding the carb and the HS diaphragm kits etc. I could be that your impulse hole is plugged inside that plastic manifold....did you ever check that? These old school HS carbs pump gas like crazy......

Could be a lot of things.....pull your plug and ground it. Watch for a nice spark as you pull the recoil. When was the last time it had a carb kit and do you run ethanol fuel?
You're gonna have to grab the fuel line with some long, needle nose pliers(preferably without teeth) and stretch it enough out of the fill hole to get your filter back on. You can make a hook out of a copper piece of ground wire and fish the line close to the opening....then grab it with your pliers leaving enough room to push the filter back on.

Yup, checked that. :( That what is so puzzling about the saw. Even after a crankcase swap and a carb swap seems like I have the same problem.

Thanks! The line was too short so had to remove it completely and fish it back through with the filter attached. I think I might've found the problem though, couldn't blow any air through the fuel tank vent. Going to hit the dealer to see if they have parts.

Good spark, carb kit was done about a cord ago and yes, run ethanol fuel.

The older J'reds are notorious for vapor lock if you leave them in the sun on a hot day. But you probably found that out cutting cord wood by now. I just make sure mine are always parked in the shade. Hope it's just a clogged vent for ya....sounds like fuel starvation for whatever reason.

Just finished up a saw that I've had sitting around for quite some time. Didn't pay anything for it and it was complete but the piston was scored.
Since this is a Jonsereds thread, some of you may want to shield your eyes:

Just a little plain jane EZ. Finally found the parts at the right price. New piston, rings, jug, seals, carb rebuild.
Blew out the manual oil lines, set the points and put in a new plug. Just fired it up and it ran great!!

Circa 1972-ish. Nicknamed 'Lil Blue this 34cc saw weighs less than 10 lbs.
It has a decomp valve for some reason.

Someone had the wrong plug in it and two gaskets in front of the reed intake.
The screen in the carb was full of sawdust. So it was abused later in life.

Nice looking saw. I just recently found an ignition for mine (in the form of a parts saw that a local dealer had in a box in the back room..... go figure ) and heard it run for the first time since I've owned it. Not as clean as yours though. Good score!

OMG my eyes are bleeding.;-) A decomp on a 34cc saw??? Is that like the story of the Little Train that could?

Kevin
