Thanks Kev, wish you were closer. Maybe Robin will help me out if he has the time.

Dean I'd be happy to help you out.....But it would have to be a little later in the year...like early fall or so.....to much stuff on my plate right now to work on my own saws let alone the seven sitting here waiting for me to fix/repair/rebuild for others.....but if that works within your time frame, PM me and we'll set something up. May have some time in Aug.....depending on my work load, which could go either way at this point I'm just waiting to hear myself.

Posted this over on the Swap Meet, but thought I'd try here, too:

I'm looking for a few 920 parts for a new-to-me project. Got a '83 920 in need of a crank, bearings, seals, starter, and clutch cover. Anybody got any of these they'd part with? I've got a 910 that I'll probably never get to that I'd part out in trade (isn't complete and has bad bearings).

Thanks!

Well this looks to be a lightly used 910E.....looks good for a saw that size.....ign needs a little attention, needs the choke pull (in stock) and the muffler is pretty banged up but otherwise looks like it'll make a good runner. Still probably paid more than I should but it was nice and clean so you could see what you were getting. (Plus I won't have to clean the damn thing) Here's the add......quite a few pics...I'll post some more when it arrives next week...and what else I find wrong with it.

Wow...looks really CLEAN for a saw that age. Been too busy this week to look on the bay...your gain! Be interesting to see what's wrong with the ignition....

Nice price Robin.

Well, well, well.......bought that 910E at 6:00AM Wed............was delivered by lunch time yesterday.....WooHoo!! Got it out of the box...smelled of old gas.......looked all over...sweet looking......tried compression.....seemed fine....no B&C....so holding it in my left hand and catching the trigger handle in the crook of my right knee gave her a pull to see how the comp really felt........damn thing started first pull......about scared me half to death..........not bad for a saw sold as a non starter!!!!!! Happy 4th everyone!!!

Are you kidding me...??? The guy couldn't figure out how to start it....so no spark issue???? Man.....well, it wasn't exactly a $50 saw with shipping, but still......!!

Where does the time go............here it is July 4th, 2014 and we finally got our first rain in over 145+ days last night. The first big storm of the monsoon season rolled in last night and dumped a bunch of dust AND water. As a result of that we now have cloudy skies, a dew point of 66 degrees and a temperature of 89 degrees...........it's FREAKIN' humid out!! I always try to make it till July 4th to switch over to the A/C from the evaperative cooler. Well I made it AND bit the bullet and switched over as the humidity was just too much to bear in the house.

Now where I'm going with this post is that I finally got some time AND a replacement A/V part for the J-red 90 soooo on the most humid day thus far in 2014 I'm out in the shop putting the 90 back together and attempting to get it to run for the first time since I've owned it. The guy I got it from did get it to run when I stopped over to check it out. It didn't want to idle so I figured the carb would need some attention. A while back I pulled the carb, put in new diaphragms, put the carb back in the saw and the saw went back on the shelf till a later date; today!! A fellow J-red owner/enthusiast helped me out with a A/V part I'd taken off and lost. I lost it when I was looking for some appropriate washers to shim up/in the conical A/V bushings to make it a tighter/more like original fit. Here are the pictures of the washer stack up and shimming to make the handle A/V less sloppy;

I had the muffler off and decided to take some pictures of the exhaust port, the piston and rings.........doesn't look too bad for a vintage saw that's definitely been used.

The muffler has definitely seen better days and I've been told by those famiilar with this saw that that is typical. I'd love to get another one of the same 'West Coast' front exit style..........maybe someone has one rat-holed away and would consider parting with it!!??. There are pictures of the mega beat-up muffler in the previous posts.

Here are a couple of videos detailing the condition of the top handle A/V, the clutch rim sprocket and the shimming of the rear handle A/V. AND the running of the saw. Just click on the picture to watch the video.

I was pretty darn thrilled to hear it run AND idle as well as it did. I met my goal of getting it back together and hearing it run today on the 4th of July.......................Happy 4th of July to everyone!!

Congrats to Robin on the sweet, easy starting 910E!! That had to be a real surprise vs. what you thought was going to be the scenario with troubleshooting a ignition issue.

I almost feel bad thinking about how well my 90 has came together since I got it!! Actually starting, running AND idling just like it did "back in the day" ......vs. what 'WoodDean' has been up against. I'm wondering, 'WoodDean' , what condition was your 90 in when it came into your possession??

Dude...sounds sweet!! Get a bar & chain on there and rev it for me....then sink it into some wood and I'll tell ya if it's tuned right. Don't goose a power head too much without a bar & chain...bad juju. Luv them runnin' 90's!

Happy 4th weekend to everyone!!!

Thanks, I'll have to check out the bar that came with it, I know the chain was pretty far gone!!! I tried to not rev it too much with out the B/ C ........don't want to do any damage.

Yeah, I saw that in the vid...that you weren't excessively revving it @WOT. Great idea on backing those A/V's with a washer to get more life/firmness. Exciting to get that 90 runnin', right?!

hello XP!
Mine was a Craigslist find I spend $40 plus a gallon of gas to go get it. It was in very rough condition but did have spark and appeared to be mostly complete. It was my first venture into the older Jonsereds as I've owned some of the newer "firewood" models throughout the years. Since I'm accustomed to working with Homeys and Stihls, I had NO IDEA the availability of parts would be an issue.
I didn't even know what model number it was when I bought it, as it wasn't marked anywhere and I didn't know squat about the older Johnnys!!!!

Sawdust and oil was caked in every groove. Then on top of that was more sawdust and oil. The recoil cover wouldn't stay on the saw as half the ears were broken off and someone had duct taped it on to pull it over. And I remember it was hard as hell to pull, so I figured the compression was good. Found out later all of the holes that hold the top cover on were stripped, along with the holes for the teeth. At one time, something came lose and rolled under the flywheel and rattled around enough to dent the capacitor and put little cuts on the underside of the wheel. It had a small 16" Winsor bar on it that looked funny with that big giant powerhead. In other words . . . . . it needed me . . . . . . !!!!

I know now that I've probably bought parts I didn't need. But when you're chasing a problem and bump into good deals it's hard to refrain.

Dean,
You can sell your extra parts to us hungry for OE stuff...that shouldn't be an issue. Same with older Husky parts that are NLA....which for the 2100, is about everything. Therein it becomes easier to buy an old, clapped out parts saw....which then turns into a project saw to bring back...lol. I think I've only parted out one saw to the parts box...the rest wait for new life.

Well I got to spend some quality time with the 910E the last couple days.....I am in the middle of a rather major boat project (mine) so couldn't get right into it.....but yesterday morning I cleaned out the gas tank which was about two steps this side of varnish...but very cleanable not that black stuff...gas line was turning to goo too....fuel filter had fallen down in the tank with a piece of rotted hose......cleaned that all up , new line and filter and a brandy new Total 20" bar and chain...gas and oiled her up...fired right up third pull....idled good......cut a half dozen 20" spruce cookies...ran great but the all of a sudden started skipping and wouldn't rev...then quit...sounds like ign....sat it on the floor and went to work on the boat....

We had a hurricane pass just offshore overnight and today so it was windy and rainy most of the day. I worked on the boat all day until about 4 Pm and the power went out at the shop....couldn't see aboard the boat so did a very small amount of varnishing and the tore back into the 910E......was just like almost every one of those I've seen.....it has the usual module by the flywheel but there is no high tension cable to the plug...just two 18 ga wires that run to the coil which is mounted on the sparkplug....the insulation just falls off these wires...not sure why...but lots of inches of bare copper wire......Unc. (Stihl 041S) came to the rescue again.......a while back he sent me a goodly supply of ...different size heat shrink tubing.....selected the smallest size I could get the ends through...slid precut lengths onto the old bare wires and put the torch to her....worked like a gem.....put it all back together...out the door started second pull reved out nice and idled perfect.....this saw has very , very few hrs on it....was planning on getting some pics but my camera needs to be plugged in...get some tomorrow when the power is back on.....very happy with this one.....parts list is; 8" fuel line, 1 fuel filter, a foot or so of heat shrink tubing and a choke pull....all in stock no waiting!!!!
