I got a surprise a little while back when I came home and found this saw that had been delivered as I wasn't expecting it and I had not bought it.

It had been on ebay and it was brought up in I think the Poulan thread. I was asked if I was going to bid on it and I think I said that I would and eventually did put in the opening bid on it. I then forgot to raise it later and it ended without me bidding any more on it.

Took me a little while trying to figure out where it came from but after while it all came together. A member here bought it and had it shipped to me. I asked him why and he said he wanted to repay me for the help with advice in helping him get a couple of saws going and sending him a extra part that I had to him for free.

I was shocked, and didn't know how to react. My first thought was that it was way more then I wanted someone to do for me and really still is. On the other hand I didn't want to offend the buyer for the kind gesture that he delivered.

So as it sits I guess I can only say thank you to him and feel that it is not enough to do so.

So in front of the whole forum I want to say thanks for doing way more then needed, I have always wanted to find one of these and it will have a special place in my collection.

The saw I'm reffering to is a Jonsered Lil Jon. A relabeled Poulan 25DA. A not very common relabeled Poulan as well. This is just a reminder of how good these saws were when a top notch company like the origianl Jonsered company would choose to put there name on them. As far as I can tell this all came about before the Poulan elux take over so that means a little more as well.

The 25DA is a 2.1 with a auto oiler.

This saw is a very good example of the Lil Jon and is in very good condition. It took just a little of the common work on a old saw to get it going. Just a clean up, new fuel line, carb kit, points cleaning and fuel cap duckbill vent.

It still has its original bar, 1/4 pitch chain, sprocket, runs and oils like new.

Here are a few pictures of it.

cute saw. what goes around comes around.

That's what my wife said.

FANTASTIC! Wish I knew who did this for you, both of you deserve a heap of rep!

Well if he wants to tell I will let him but I won't. I know he didn't want to do it just for the recognition.

It just floors me how all of the really great people in the world seem to end up on this site.

Quite right. This is an instance where recognition is due, yet I admire the desire for anonymity and just doing a good deed. Makes it all the more worthy, you know?

That is a great thing to see Mark. You do reap what you sow, so you must be doing something right!!!

Sweet saw BTW, I've never seen one in those clothes. :msp_love:

after looking around many forums, that right there is why I chose to join AS.... what a fine bunch of people here...

That red Lil' Jon sure looks nice. By the way..........you're as generous a man as this other 'mystery' AS member. You've given saws, parts, and advice to several folks here.......myself included. This is indeed a case of what had been going around coming around. Cheers to both of you!

Great little saw - and a well deserved reward for all the help you supply to many of us. If I knew the name of the member I would rep him.

Al.

I think your wife is referring to the gratuitous time you spend on your chainsaw collection. :)

I agree- Mark, you're as much of a gentleman and fine human being as I've ever met.

I do like that old-school bar cover, that's really cool.

EXXcellent!!!

A very nice gesture on his part undeed. That is a great example of one of those. I too saw it on ebay but ended up not bidding as I could tell is was going to go for more than I wanted to spend. I have been looking for one for my collection as it was the very first Jonsereds I ever used. An old guy I worked with had a nephew that was a Jred dealer and he new I was in need of saw so he brought it to work one Friday and said use it for the weekend and see if you like it. It was used but very very little, about the same shape as yours, perhaps a tad better. Of course at the time it was new (as in current yr... 1977) and a guy had bought it but found he needed a bigger saw and traded it right back in. Anyway long story short...I used it and did like it but as with the original owner, I felt I needed a bit more saw and didn't buy it..it had the same bar cover...$125.00 was the asking price. Kinda wished I had but instead I bought my first new 49sp from his nephew for $249.95.

Good score Mark I'm sure your friend knew you would appreciate it and give it the care it is worthy of. As everyone has already said "what goes around comes around" You're just on the "comes around" side right now!!!!!

This is good first post to read with first cup of coffee on a snowy Sunday morning Thanks for sharing.

Robin, I have been wondering about the timeline on this saw as to when it was sold by Jonsered. This saw from all accounts seems to be a 25DA and not a "S"25DA. From the Poulan documents that I have the 25DA was only made till 1974.

Are you certain on the 1977 timeline for yourself? Could the saw have been a couple of years older then you thought? If you are then I need to measure the bore on this one to be sure, but the muffler, stop switch and Tillotson carb all scream a 2.1CI 25 and not a 2.3CI Super 25.

I have a couple Poulan private label cross references and the Jonsered Lil Jon is not listed in either one of them. I did find in another Poulan branded products list that Poulan did make a few other saws for Jonsereds in the early 90's but they appear to be 36 and 40cc saws so probably not this style of saw.

I also see this bar cover is lettered Jonsereds with the S and don't fit into the time frame that I'm coming up with for this saw so I'm thinking that this bar cover did not come with it when it was new and was probably picked up for it later.

You made a good choice with the 49SP as Poulan really didn't have a saw that size in there lineup in those years. I bought my first saw about 2 years later then you did around 1979 and it was a used S25CVA and it heated my house for a year or two by itself till I got the money to buy a used 306A.

That was a good 2 saw plan for me for the next couple decades.
