I thought the original post was to see some large bars so I took a few of mine. It appears the post went off on a tangent but in any event here are a few saws. One 090G has a 60" General on it, The other 090G has a 59" Duromatic, The 3100 has a 60'' as well does the 1100, the 1130 has the short bar on it at 52". If we need to get into a pissing match then I guess I could get out the 2 man saws. I believe Mike has a 84" Mac bar which I do not.

Nice saws Bill....i bet the 090's are a load to carry around. Well id say any of those saws would be a load.

If anyone is interested these saws or not static saws. I ran both the 090G's and the Homelite 3100 yesterday. I ran the 1130 a few days ago. The 1100 was one of the saws I ran at Baraboo last year. These are running saws I just did not put chains on all of them.

Bill

Here is pic of the 090G's

Aren't those old saws great? They are too heavy, too hard to get parts for, too few RPMs, but don't they sound great?

You can get almost every part new... The last version was made up until about 2-3 years ago, and the 070 (same as 090 with smaller bore, different clutch etc) is still made in Germany for Asia and South America.

But they do sound great!

my woods port piped 070 sounds just like an old dirtbike, but i little louder.
still need to get a chain for it before i can really do any testing with it..

No sorry mate, I don't have a brother. I always wanted one but now, with my dad dead at 80 and my mum going strong but 76 years old I think I'll give up wishing.

Yeah I thought about that when I saw the pile of logs but it was too good to pass up. All of the logs had been down about 7 years so had started to dry quite well just lying there and the gum is a very good burning, high heat output wood. What I did was; get the log lifted with the hiab and then go around the log where I was going to cut with a really course scrubing brush and it removed almost all of the dirt. I ended up not having to do much more filing at all. I am currently sitting here on the computer in the middle of our winter burning some of that very wood.

No problems. I'd just run into a guy who looked a lot like you a few times (in odd places - Wellington, Fiji, Sydney)

Sorry... I was slow composing my post. I was refering to the Alpina, not the Stihls.

The sentiments on sound stand though. They just have something newer saws don't.

RB I was looking at that picture of the stump on that moster pine. Was there more of a hinge when it actually fell? I'm not questioning your abilities, I'm just curious. My largest bar is a 24" on my Ms440. The largest tree I ever cut was a little over 30".

When using a long bar like that do you,"sweep" through the cut? I was always curious about the," push and pull forces" on the operator when running a bar that long. Do you always have the Dogs set when felling and running a beast like that? Do the chips ever jam the bar in the knurf or does the saw have enough power to blast right through. That's one HUGE Tree you cut.
