BACK IN PRODUCTION!!!

Had some time this morning so I made the reed plate for the MC49 reeds and keeper and drilled the block for the manual oiler.

Pilot holes...

Rough openings after cutting with dremel and rough grind.
View attachment 199061

After finishing with a stone at ends and a diamond grinder on sides. Not perfect, (I told you I'm no builder, merely an "assembler") but it'll do.

Drilled for manual oiler rod. The passage does intrude upon the chain-guard mount boss, but there appears to be enough clearance to still run the bolt and have the rod go past. Dab of lock-tite will help.

I have some MAJOR parts cleaning to get through, but the good news is assembly is imminent. Won't get much done this weekend, I'm running north for the bear hunt. My FIL has a permit and my son's never seen this before, I'm excited for him to do this.

As for the the aesthetic, the powder-coat stuff is out. I'm in a rat-rod mood...

EDIT: DAMN, looks like I have learn how to post pictures, AGAIN! Just when I had it figured out...

OK. Considered something similar, but ruled it out as I was afraid the carb would move too much with the AV mounts for it to work.

The 91s unboxed with the new official bench race fuel of CPRacing.

Tell me about the 70 in the background??????

1983, red. All original, save the fuel lines, carb kit, and air filter... Needs a new sticker across the fenders, but otherwise minty.
Cool. I have an '83 also, but mine is far from stock. I machined a supercharger for it and used a Tillotson carb on methanol. 14:1 compression and 13 lbs of boost. I used it to tow my dragbike.

Awesome! Been thinking about the 80cc kit for mine, but that is sweet. Any pics/vids of that?

This is why projects shouldn't languish...

I knew I'd forget something...

Face-to-palm moment when I remembered the need for captive nuts at the rear handle bottom mounting point. Clutch side = no problem. Flywheel side equals pullers, patience, and potations...

View attachment 199821

I had to pull the flywheel shroud to re-clock the starter and wire the kill-switch. No biggee, but now, I get to pop the entire ignition system, flywheel, and inner shroud... yippee.

What might've been tonight.

BTW, the wrap handle is cracked. I installed it anyhow. It's easy enough to replace later.

View attachment 199823

Also, we've seen saw parts adaptable/cross-produced for the karts. The kart stuff went over to the saws, too. Notice the die-casting for the iginition shut-off on the kart shroud even though the switch isn't located there...

Shopping the hardware aisle tomorrow... This weekend will be exciting.

Had a couple of hours between meetings this afternoon, so I ducked in for a couple of hours of wrenching. Odd wearing a suit and tie under the coveralls... Got the bottom bracket nuts in after pulling the flywheel (2 hours total, normal), reset all that business and set the D44 rear handle on after doing a small clearance chop on the kart hood. Maybe a 440 rear handle would've worked better, but I had this already.

Anyway, assembly ought to hit 99% complete tomorrow night. I'm headed to the office and won't have any ambition left when I get home.

Getting nervous about firing it up now that it looks like a saw again. Worried I screwed something up...

Tired and finished for the night. Saw isn't done. Those little things during final assembly really take forever. Sure I could short-circuit some things, but then I'd have to tear it apart to fix it later. Case-in-point, realized I had no kill-switch in the pile-o-790. So I robbed one from a parts 1-72, but it had no wire. 1 hour down the drain just checking off that box. Then I went to put on the clutch. Do yourself a favor and put a sticky note over your bench to save you a bunch of head scratching: 125s are LH thread, karts a RH. Got it? Good. :tongue2:

BTW, anyone remember what size o-ring goes on the carb needles? Mark covered this a while back and I can't remember where or what size.

Assuming I did the "faultback" right, we're still on track to run it this weekend.

I have some pictures of "Fugly" to get up, too... I tell ya' except for the MC-91 sticker on it, if you shoved this saw in a GTG lineup, no one's pickin' it first. They might even laugh at the turd with a 48" bar. Their mistake...

The US Mail brought me some good stuff today. I'm trying to copy our friend downunder. The sloper intake does not have a nipple for the impulse line nor does the carb. Do kart motors not require an impulse line? Is the impulse line necessary for the auto oiler? I'm not too educated on two strokes so please forgive me. Thanks, RonView attachment 200178View attachment 200179

The reed block should have holes in each corner.
Depending on how the carb is mounted one of the
holes will line up with the impulse passage on the
carb. The carb doe's need impulse to opperate the
fuel pump. The auto oiler also needs impulse which
through a hole in the stuffer and lines up with a hole
in the oil tank.

Nice manifold. What carb are you going to use?

Lee

Lee, thanks. I was hoping to use the carb shown - a BDC16. I don't know if it will fit and I don't know what model Ozflea is referring to when he says use the 35mmm MAC. I need to find a reasonable priced 125 tank/handle to modify. I am also kicking around ways to run an air filter. As an aside, I couldn't help but notice that the carb doesn't have a choke. It does have holes in the general area where an axle would ride; they are plugged with little plastic plugs. No choke, no dsp - could be a killer to start. Ron

Right place at right time. I can't take any credit for it. There one up right now from the same Seller - supposively a standard bore; mine was advertised as a fresh bore. Ron

I know they are available, but I am having trouble finding the funds to complete the transaction.

Looks great Ron. I'm doing the same with my 101.

"Fugly" will be built today, not sure I'll have time to start it, though.

Do you need a non-cracked full wrap 700-series handlebar Charles? I have the one I offered to Cliff earlier. He ended up getting another one with a batch of parts. Yours if you want it....

I'll relieve you of that Aaron, thank you!

Well guys, I need a $0.10 part to make this thing roar. 1 measely barrel spring on the carb throttle shaft and it's ready to rock.

Otherwise, I give you 791R, aka "Fugly"...

Actually, it's gorgeous.
