Bob - 91410 is the correct part number according to the IPL, 52207 is the special bar adjusting nut.

I will try to contact you when I am in Australia in a couple of weeks, leaving early Friday morning for a week in Panama first.

Mark
Bloody eyes are playing tricks on me again your right Mark but the ones you sent are too long

MAC Answer to age old question. I've been down with kidney stones since Tuesday but I have done a little light reading between pain lessons and came across MAC's answer to what constitutes low compression worthy of investigation and possible rebuild. Per several references in the service manuals posted recently - it is less than 100 psi after 6 pulls. Ron

Any love for the 1-60? There's one for sale near me, but the asking price seems a little high at $100. Claims 32" bar and it looks like it by the lousy pics, and the saw looks complete, though rough...,

So...

Only produced for a year according to Acres.

Does anyone know the part number for the bar stud adapters ? Like this one. I just bought a Mac bar but it only came with one, the other is missing. image.jpg

Thats' funny Sheldon. I was sent an NOS McCulloch hardnose a while back..............and it only came with one spring spacer as well. I make my own spacers out of 3/8" hardware store extension springs. Cut about 4 coils or so to match the width of the bar.

You can also use the Homelite and Poulan 'S' spacers. The stud spacing is the same for the 5/16" stud XL series Homeliltes, the Poulans, and the 10-series Macs. They're available on ebay and elsewhere. Those can be replicated with some work and the flat spring inserts from certain automotive wiper blades. 530055044 is the Poulan part # for the 'S' clip. Can't find the Homelite # at the moment. IIRC Joyce the Chainsawlady had the Homelite 'S' clips for sale at one time.

Here's an 'S' type stud spacer that came off of an early Homelite Super XL-12. It goes right onto the studs on a Poulan 306A and a McCulloch 7-10A (in these pics), and currently is on my Poulan 4900.

McCulloch also made (or sold with their own part number) some of the "S" type adapters. I bought several from a shop in Oklahoma a couple of years back, did the deal by phone while on my way to the airport. Wonder where I was going that time???

This week is Panama, headed back to Australia next week. Should be home a few days before Christmas, hope I put enough wood in the basement before I left, wouldn't want to come home to a cold house.

I also received a couple of the "S" type spacers when I bought a few odd bars a while back.

Thanks Mark and Aaron. I will head to the hardware store to see what I can find for springs. I had no luck in my small stock of springs in my shop. I have a feeling there is hundreds of those Mac springs on the shelves at saw shops around here but that's a lot of bins to search thru to find it without a part number.

I realized a place I should check for the part number in my paperwork as I typed. I found the s clip style is 87839 and available online for $3.44.

If you look up a lot of different models saws you will notice that quite a few were only made for a year. I think people try to take advantage of this fact especially on ebay making it sound like it is .... RARE.... which is a word used way too much these days. I have a nice 1-60 in my collection and I like it. I prefer the older heavier saws myself instead of the lighter plastic saws. Maybe when I get older and arthritis kicks in harder I will resort to one of them lighter saws but you won't catch me toting one around yet. I have to get a new wick for mine and haven't run across one yet at a good price. There is one on ebay now but I can't see paying 50 bucks for it. I may try to make something work myself or ill keep looking till I find one at a better deal. Id like to run that saw but can't at the moment unless I hold it level. Anyway it's all a matter of personal preference for saws. Seems most in here like the lighter weight saws like the 700, 800 series saws or 10 series. I use my 440 95% of the time when I go in the woods. I don't think it weighs that much myself but I am no weakling. A lot of people have gotten too lazy these days and I think that is part of the reason guys use these newer lighter saws and or they like the super high rpm's of them. 6000 rpm is good enough for me I am in no rush but if it's your bread and butter I can understand why you would want a faster cutting saw. I'm just an old timer myself and prefer most older methods of doing things.

Anyway while we are on the subject of a 1-60 if anyone in here has a wick for one of these they wanna get rid of give me a holler I need one so I can cut with this gear grinder. I haven't been able to use it yet. Rebuilt the carb and then it was starved for fuel. Washed out the wick as best I could but still was just too clogged up I reckon. So I tossed it. I rebuilt the carb and she runs good but I can't use it for having no wick to pick up the petrol. Should be a good runner when I get it fixed. I* have a feeling it is going to be underpowered though. I know my 250 bogs easily if I lean on it, well the newer thick ring version anyway. The older thin ring 250 screams and runs much better. I put a new set of rings in it and hasn't fully seated yet but this saw does run much better than the thick ring tillotson 250 saw. Maybe a combination of the thin rings and flat back carb? All I can say is there is a night and day difference between the two and the thick ring saw has more compression that the thin ring saw at the moment. Oh well I got off topic again like I usually do... Probably a sign of old age messing with me... I don't post much in here but I do read a lot of older postings which will take me a LONG time to do if I keep going. But that is all I have is time...

Hey All,

Picked up this old girl, CL Vermont....would have been a 6 hour trip, guy was nice enough to send it.

Spelled it as "mccmulloch" in the ad which probably kept the hits down. here is the pic from the ad:

I love "top tank" Mac's, but this one looked a little different....had that single retagular detent for the name plate (and no corresponding one around the gas cap), and the frame protectors.

It was his Old Man's, like so many others, I reassured him it was going to a good place.

Being that it was shipped, it was worth it regardless.

Sooo, what is it?.....

SO, after the intial assessment....

Saw has brutal compression, so I'm not pulling the internals.

NO spark.

Leaking oil.

Dirty as a MoFo.

Muffler looks good.

First, a lightly cleaned up beauty shot:

Piston? Looks good!
super 797 4.jpg

Cylinder? still has machine marks!
super 797 8.jpg

Lower end looks good, I believe saw was stored with motor oil (you can see residual) there was alot of oil on the top end too, gas tank was stored dry.

After using some air, it was becoming apparent why there was a bar oil leak...

Prior to these pics I pulled the flywheel, cleaned the points = strong blue spark....nice and easy!

Will be a few days, but after pics are coming!

I tried getting a hold of this guy for a week with no reply. I even offered to drive to him to get it. I was 2 hours away. He couldn't even tell me it was sold. I'm happy you got it but craigslist pisses me off.
