I tried getting a hold of this guy for a week with no reply. I even offered to drive to him to get it. I was 2 hours away. He couldn't even tell me it was sold. I'm happy you got it but craigslist pisses me off.

I hear you Phil, I've lost out on quite a few as well....most recently:

This morning I talked to a guy that had a almost new *gasp* Homelite 750...10 hours on it at the most....it sold for $300. Yesterday. The saw had been listed for 3 weeks, but I just found it.

The guy in Vermont had listed the 797 on Halloween. I didn't find it until the 17th of this month, just got lucky I guess.

I did pay him $50.00 extra for his trouble and $30.00 to ship it. To me it's worth more than $180.00 so it was a deal (saw was listed for $100/obo).

Anyways, on to said saw:

I'm thinking this is a low hour saw, very little wear on the sprocket (nut shows no sign of being removed), the cylinder paint is almost perfect...almost no heat discoloration on the fins. Cylinder/piston almost perfect.

Stealing a front tank from the "Large Frame Mac Bin" I have, she may be back together in the next day or two.

I'd bet most of us have had a similar CL experience at one time or another. I've had more than a few over the years that CL has been up (and long before that, when people listed items for sale in something called a Newspaper).

Hey All,

I picked up a 1-85 the other day off ebay....don't have the saw yet, it was listed as potentially scored/seized...I have some questions:

I have an extra Super 797 P/C...however I don't have a crank for the 797...which cranks crosses over, if any?

Which pistons would cross over if I have to do a bore job?

Would gearbox components from a Super 55A work if it is a gearbox issue?

Thanks!

Andy

How frickin much bigger do you want Bob? You can upload HUGE pics in the new software.

PS - personally your sig pic is a little on the overkill side. Would this be enough for you? Some of the poor fellas on here are still on dialup, and need all the help they can get:

I think he's bustin' my chops Steve.

Sorry, still learning the new system....the size seems alright until you click on them!

Not sure why they can still be enlarged when they are not thumbnails.

Anyway, Bob (or anyone)...do you know what piston(s) may work other than the ones meant for the 1-85?

Seems like Mac only offered a 20 over at the time.

Maybe a 797 Super gear drive is in the works...it'll be "The other saw McCulloch didn't make"

Thanks!

I actually got the 750....But I didnt pay 300.
Awesome mac by the way

The 1-50 is a direct drive front tank saw, should have a full wrap handle. Not the hottest of the 80 cc saws but it would be loud. Has a unique hump in front of the AF cover leftover from the D-30/36 center pull models.

The 1-85 is the same engine as the 1-75 @ 99 cc, they are pretty sweet when they are fresh. I can't get to my computer right now to check which other saws had the same bore but it seems to me the 795/895 are the same. That would be good news because there is a truckload of NOS 795 cylinders out there somewhere.

All of the large frame gear drive used the same basic gearbox except for the 650/660. Later saws had an automatic oil pump added to the sprocket shaft.

Thanks Mark. I'm looking for a 5-6 cube play toy. Not to be a shelf queen. Trying to work out a deal for a Homelite 925xl that's supposed to run strong. But this 1-50 is just down the road and could be had for a Jackson. Looks to be pretty complete. But if its kinda a dud, it prolly ain't worth much hassle.

Thanks Mark:rock:

This saw is in really decent shape (I thought)... I'll post pics when it shows up.

If you find out something let me know!

That guy almost $hit when I told him it was worth at least $5-600 (ebay)....he probably didn't sleep that night!

So, good find, and proves my point: We all get, and miss, deals...but at least we have the opportunity to share our "scores" with everyone here, that's the fun part!

Hey Mark, talked to Lee at all?

Weird for him to not be around, hope he's alright....maybe he switched sites?

I know it's been quiet since the hacking issues but the regulars seem to have come back already.
