Nice, they both look like they belong together. :) Notice how the paint chips almost match... :D Really, that 7-10 will make you happy, you know, like the 850 made me happy. :) I can't say much about the Mini Mac... I've never worked on one...

You'd sure be the talk of the town with a Mac... they're freaking loud! If you get a big enough Mac, I bet it would drown out all of the Stihls. :)

That 800 is pretty quiet, the airbox cover really cuts the intake roar. that and it has about a pound of muffler. The 850 when I'm done with it, will let a mile radius know it's working.

And another gets hooked. Pretty soon we will all be trying to buy the same saws and prices will be higher than new saws. Better get mine in while I dont need to take a mortgage out:hmm3grin2orange:.

Thanks cpr for the link to that thread for bypassing the governor. Its going to be awhile before I get around to it, but I would like to try it both ways, jut to see what it does.

You'll be sure to show your muff mod so I can do the same to my 850, right? :blob2:

Or do I just make a cover that is basically a screen or the like so stuff like chipmunks don't get sucked into the engine...

Now I bet you are jealous...

It's Aaron's turn.

No real muffler mod, an exchange to an older style, lighter and less restrictive.

You talking about the reed cover, or the louvered cover? (forgive me, still learning)

Just for kicks, I thought I might just take the reed and reed cap off, and make a deflector that allows more flow... would that be a good or bad idea? (this would be done after I get the new fuel line put in, and the saw tuned up right)

:clap:I like it! How long of a bar will that saw run?

I reckon a 42" with a 7 pin and skip chain.

(RandyMac, correct me if I'm wrong)

36" 7 pin, 28-32" 8 pin in clean, green soft wood like Pine.

.....and 7 pin 3/8" 24-28" for a 5 cube saw in rock-hard Oak,Madrone, and Eucalyptus (sp?) like I have to cut sometimes. The work you're doing with the saw really is what dictates the bar lengh. For me, I'm not going to run really long bars (here in Oak/Madrone/Euc/Smaller Fir&Pine country that means over 32" or so) except at GTG's, and in 'special circumstances' (such as the rare-to-me BIG oak, or when cutting BIG coastal Eucs). The only saws I'll run bars over 36" or so on will be my gear drives. Randy lives and works in the heart of BIG softwoods country, and his bar choices reflect that.

Learned something else today. :) So 42" was way out of the question. I guess my subconscience thinks a 36" bar is too short. :D

You handle many bars 36" or longer on 5 cube saws? 5 cube saws are more about speed in the wood (lol) than in pulling big bars. Big bars demand more cubes. See below...

42" is six cube territory.

Oh yeah..................there's my next RandyMac siggy quote!:D

I'm looking to get an SP81 sometime. May have a line on a local one, but don't know the engine's condition yet. I may be buggin' you about that SP80/81 block and crank. All the saws of that series seem to have quite a 'bite' to the sound they emit. My PM10-10 'sounds' louder than my stack-muffler equipped 250. I can see why they put those 10-pound garbage can mufflers on the later large-cube versions of those saws.

Spoils the 'look' and the feel of them IME however. The earlier 70 and 82cc versions look more 'clean' to my eyes. I'm going to run the 'shorty' clutch cover (sans the muffler guard section of the PM cover) that Wes sent me on my PM10-10 to make it look more like those older saws.

Should I hold him whilst you smack him, RandyMac?

It's Aaron's turn.

Sorry I'm late Boss. Warmin' up my smackin' hand right now...

You are forgiven my son, go forth and sin some more.

There is a McCulloch five cube saw, that can pull a 42" bar.
The hybrid, what were they thinking? 1-60 series.
