Every now and then will be the extent of it. A nice runner, but it is quite a beast. A little too heavy. Great for bucking a big tree. I will run it enough to keep it running, that's for sure.

What!?! You ain't gonna fell trees with it? Sissy. :D

Also, the gas cap leaks on this saw when I turn it on it's side. There is some sort of check valve missing in the cap I guess. Can anybody here sell me one, or at least point me in the right direction to find one?

Use a duck bill value. I repaired one that way. You may have to improvise by inserting the value in a piece of fuel line then gluing the fuel line in the cap. It has been a while and I do not rembember exactly what I did, but it was along the above line. Tom

Some days you win some, some days you lose some and today was my day for losing. Spent the day trying to get caught up on some of me projects and I am no closer than when I started this morning LOL. Biggest snag I hit today was, I was trying to clean the carbon off the 7-10 I have apart. It had heavy carbon deposits and had quit a bit on the under side of the piston. Eventually I broke down and pushed the wrist pin out to clean it up better, while blowing it off I noticed what looked like needle bearings on the ground. Wouldnt you know it one side had non, and the other was loosing them. They all just came out. After further inspection I noticed that this wasnt a new problem. Looks like one had hit the piston crown and messed up the ring lands. So I will be in the market for a new piston. Had got a 6-10 piston hoping it would work and it not I was just going to use the rings. As it turns out they have different wrist pin size and different location in respect to the crown. On a brighter note tomorrow I turn 31, and not only did a friend bring me 18 cans of tastiness (PBR) I also got some money and should get some more, might be time to start shopping for a 895:clap:.

Ambull - the duck bill valve in the gas cap is 53766, should be available from most anyone that sells old McCulloch parts. Bob Johnson has had them in the past, others should as well. Knock the vent out, clean out all remnants of the original, put the new one in, and make sure to seat the vent firmly against the new duck bill valve or it will still leak.

I ran my SP105 a bit this weekend taking down a stump in my yard, while it is a bit heavy getting into position, you sure appreciate the HP in the cut. I have a 32" hard nose bar with .404 chain on the 105 right now. really eats it up.

Went to the Stihl dealer, and surprise, surprise, got a 7 pin rim, large spline... :D So I got her together and ran her a little... I really need to go cut some wood... I'm going crazy here with no wood to bury this saw in!!!

Got the Jedi death stare from that weird guy that denied giving me parts saws due to liability... and the other guy that I was actually talking to knew exactly what I was talking about...

I think the guy that gave me that Jedi death stare is just scared ####less of me... :D

Swing down to Tennessee and I'll show you some properly sized wood waiting for a MAC. Be careful and enjoy the saw. Ron

PS Did you have a chance to get the old kill switch off the rotten tank?

Yep... sounds like you need it... :) I'll send it your way if you do. :)

As for being careful, will do so. :)

Mark, Damn nice looking direct drive you've got there. I know you'll keep it well maintained.

I didn't want to seem like an ungracious guest but I was a little confused why that stump was sitting in the middle of your wood pile.

I don't know what this one is taching right now, but it does rev up a lot faster than I expected. I had bought two different flatback kits. One from discount marine and one from sugar creek. I liked the kit from discount marine a lot better, but I couldn't use the metering diaphragm because it had a hole in the wrong place. I didn't like the metering diaphragm from sugar creek because it was so tight and didn't have any slack to move like it is supposed to. I ended up heating and strectching the sugar creek metering diaphragm to increase its range of motion. Works like a top now.

I spoke to Joe Salva from Sugar Creek about the diaphragm issue, this was his responce
"Hi Jim,
You know, I should put a little more description on the post where I have the kits,.....when those kits go into a carb, the gas and oil mixture will make them expand,.....there is no way around it. The fiberglass mat inside the diaphragm helps to limit the movement, however, it is going to move. If you take one of my Flatback kits, put it in a saw and run the saw for a day or so and then open up the carb and take the diaphragm out, you will see what I mean,....the diaphragm loosens up,...my design takes this into consideration. I have too many satisfied customers out there telling me their MACs run like raped apes and still do! If you get a chance to post over there on Arborist, you might let this guy know that you know me pretty well and you brought up the concern, we discussed it and indicated it was designed to expand. Talk to you soon!
Joe"

I have used Joe's kits with no problems.

There's a forwarder operator on the American Loggers show whose handle is "10-10."

I can only think of two obvious uses for 10-10...

CB code: 10-10 = transmission completed, standing by

*or*

Mcculloch MAC 10-10

Since he is an older logger, and presumably operated chainsaws at some point in his career, I wonder if the nickname "10-10" refers to his favorite chainsaw?

Thanks for mentioning it to him. I was just letting everyone know how the diaphragm worked out for me based on my experience. It was so tight when installed that it wouldn't open the fuel inlet needle. It may expand with gas, but the gas has to get to it first.

Oh, do you happen to know what kind of adhesive Joe uses between the metering diaphragm and gasket. My kit came with the two glued together.
