i love my SP105, but i've never ran it next to a SP125. I've always thought it would be like a PM700 is faster than a 10-10. i still think that the SP125 would be faster. I can say that the SP105 at 106.5cc is MUCH faster than my 740 at 99cc and the SP105 has a 38"bar compared to the 740 which has a 20". I would love to find someone with a SP125 and run them against each other, better yet, maybe i just need to go get a SP125:D. well, here is a video of mine running. its not a new video, you guys probably have already seen it.

Got it, thanks Aaron! I was thinking that, just wanting to be sure as I backed it out and nothing really changed. Good news you bring me, bad news now confirmed .....IT'S BROKEN!!

Your welcome Randy. Sorry to hear that. The service manual sez that the standard setting for the adjusting screw is two turns out from bottomed. That gives approximately 10cc per minute at an average engine speed of 6000rpm. Each 1/4 turn of the screw will change the output by approximately 3cc/minute, with 50cc/minute being max output. They warn that the pump will empty the tank in less than 10 minutes of run time at max output. 1/8th turn adjustment increments are recomended...

Just to be sure...............the screw you're adjusting is the one with the locknut that enters the pump at an angle correct? There is a plug at the top of the pum that's NOT the adjusting screw. Just a large slotted head plug. Do you need the service manual?

A lot of the differences between the SP105 and SP125 will depend on how "fresh" each one is. Neither are a slouch, but the 125 is definitely a stronger saw all things considered. It is not necessarily faster with the same bar and chain, but the 125 will keep pulling as the bar length goes up.

Oiler adjustment and output are somewhat subjective as well, depending on the condition of the piston, check valves, springs, etc. In general I find my big McCulloch saws oil and fuel capacities are better matched than my Jonsered 2050 or 621's which always run out of oil before they run out of fuel. I can't say I have enough experience with all of the saws to draw any hard and fast conclusions there.

I have the SP40, SP60, SP70 (non runners or little experience), and the SP105's and SP125's. I do have a couple of SP81's but neither are in running condition yet. I would like to get the SP80 and SP81E just to have them all in the collection.

The SP40 is alright for the light work, I will say I'm impressed with the SP60 and really need to get one of the 70's and one of the 81's freshened up and running. I do like the AV of my CP55 so I expect the others would be nice handling saws as well.

I wish I had known, I would have swapped my SP81E for one of your SP81s to give to Jacob. I didn't have the right AF cover though. Ron
 
Can someone help me understand why my 640 ran backwards for a sec? I was starting the saw and it has been a little while so it took a few pulls. On about the 7-8th pull it almost started but didn't. There were two pops from the muffler and the chain turned backwards for maybe half a round. After, that I tried to start again and it started up and ran good. I think the starter pawls kept the motor from turning backwards. Is it possible for the motor to fire backwards? The timing would be way off that's for sure. Maybe I had breathed in too much two stroke smoke

boda65, are you sure you want to trade a 105 that runs that well for a well used 125 of mine??? If I just swapped AF covers with you, everyone would think you had a 125 and you probably would still have the better runner. Ron

This was a Craigslist find. It's a runner, very little wear, bought it from the second owner. He was asking less than I was prepared to pay so I didn't even bother haggling over price.
 
Real nice 105. Sure does have a nice sound to it:msp_thumbup:.

It does have a different tone than any of my other Macs. A deeper, more mellow tone. At idle it sounds like a dirt bike.

You guys are starting to make me want to hold on to it. Not sure if I'll ever get anything bigger though. I don't know if I could ever be lucky enough again to stumble upon a 125 or 797 the way I got this one. But I am happy with what I've got. It brings a smile to my face when I run it.

Nice find, looks to have been used gently. The manuals are a really cool find. It's hard to imagine some one keeping the manuals with the saw for 45 or so years. Very cool!

McCulloch 10 Series Bar - Help Needed

I picked up a NOS 32" 10-series bar recently and was wondering if it has the right sprocket nose. The bar,chain, & accessory catalog that I have lists the sprocket nose but it does not have the bar listed. The nose is stamped PN 86831 and .404 .063 ga. The catalog lists this nose as .063/.058 (assuming that it is used for both guages?). The bar PN 86796 is not listed in my catalog. I tried fitting .050 chain in the groove and it feels a little loose to me. I don't have any .058 ga chain to try. The bar groove looks smaller than the groove in the nose so I don't think that it is an .063 ga bar. Anyone have a catalog that lists the part number for the bar so I can verify?
