Doesn't Gallardoni also supply Ducati with their cylinders? It's not shameful at all to see Duc parts in a Mac. Ducati's are nice bikes. And they are sorta old school as new bikes go as well.

desmodromic

I've always wanted to tinker with an 1970's bevel drive Ducati twin. Just a pipe dream however. That's too much of a money pit for me in reality. I once spent at least a half hour trying to explain the desmodromic valve gear (and the advantages of it) to a thickheaded friend.....:bang:

Finally got around to doing something I've wanted to do for a while, make a new spike to match the outer one on my first SP125C.

The inner spike was on it originally. Somehow it never looked right - like it was from an older model. This past weekend I pulled it off and sent to to a far, far better home - another member who specializes in older Macs.

Then I got to work on the new one. I had to weld a 1" extention to the 3/16" plate I had, grind it flat, then layout the spike. After sawing out the rough shape I bolted the two spikes together to match the profiles using a carbide bit in my die grinder and voila - matching spikes. Can you tell which is which?

desmodromic

Nuttin sounds quite like a Duc, mang:

I also like those moto guzzis. But I wuz too skeered to buy me one. I ended up with rice rockets and jap dirt bikes most the time. How I never got killed, I'll never know. I did get 32 stitches once, tho. And I thought chainsaws were sposed to be dangerous. But I have always wanted a Ducati monster, Only problem is I am 6' and 210#. I look like I am trying to hatch one when I sit on it. They are tiny.

Oh, found me some large spikes on EBay. Amazing how many mac parts are there.

Photo update PM800

As promised a page or two back, here are some photo's of the PM800 I bought in June, picked up in November, and managed to get the oiler working properly in December. I switched bars from the 24" that came with it to this 28", I think the black & yellow look better on this saw.

Now to find some wood to cut...

Ever wonder about the bump up hood on the 800? Notice the "ram air" scoops in the last two photo's.

Sorry guys, I still haven't figured out the new system to make the photo's magically appear.

Another project ready for testing

Getting ready for the GTG last October I tried to hurry up and get as many of the SP model saws ready as I could. I ended up with three that did not work properly; the SP81 with the bad carburetor (that story is documented earlier in this thread), the SP70 with the leaking fuel tank (also documented earlier in this thread, thank Mweba for the threebond, it really works), and this SP81 that had issues with the oiler as well as the choke oiler buttons.

I started it up the other day just it see if the oiler had magically started working again, no such luck but the cloud of smoke and odor of burning bar oil lead me to believe the problem might be with the automatic oiler function. I opened th cover and found the screw securing the pump to the housing was not tight at all, and that the automatic oiler body & gasket were not properly aligned. I went ahead and pulled the pump out to give it a good cleaning, checked the manual function (working) checked the automatic pump before putting it back together (working) and reassembled it all. Low and behold, we have oil.

I fit this one with a 24" roller nose bar I got from MO Jim, and even found some left over McCulloch chain and made up a loop just for this set up.

I still need to find some wood to cut to give some of these latest projects some work.

1/2" Plung Bow Chain.

Eccentric.

You were right about the chain on my 35 Plung Bow, it's 1/2". :bang:

I was thinking of my 250 Brush Bow which has .404 chain.

I'm not surprised Woody. No big deal. You already have the chain, and I doubt you'll wear it out and need a replacement! That 1/2" sharpens with a 1/4" file (in case you didn't know already).
