By the way Roland, nice job on the 450. Those saws were pretty impressive in their day but are badly overshadowed by what a more modern saw can do. Even so, I think I'd rather run my 1-72 than the 066 Stihl most days, you simply sound and feel like you are getting more work done.

Mark

Hi Mark, quite true, but not much beats a good running 660 or 288xp in big wood. Gotta protect my back, artritis and hearing for when I get old...:hmm3grin2orange:

BTW, when are you going to complete your Mac Carb thread with the infamous bullfrog carb ??? I owe you a beer already for the tutorial on the big Mac carb.

Don't know what is going on with MAC muffler prices. How about this little GEM $102.50 plus shipping: eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices Used and doesn't appear to have the baffle. Just a little while ago for $50 to $60 you could get a complete NOS.

Ron

People are stupid. Let's leave it at that.

On a separate note, but related to McCullochs, I got some parts primed... couple more coats and a couple of other parts to receive soda blasting and primer, and then it'll be off to paint...

Things got all effed up (hardware store charges double the price of a lock shop for key making/cutting) and I wasn't able to run to to the hardware store to get some bolts to get started on the adjusters.

I ended up going somewhere else for getting the spare keys for my truck made. Now the damn truck has blown the manifold gaskets, and the collector gaskets. Deafening. Worse than listening to leeha's 101G with the computer speakers blaring all day into your face.

Wish I had never bought the truck. :bang: Oh well, too late.

Roland,

Somewhere in the bowels of this McCulloch thread are a few pages devoted to the 10 Series flat back, AKA Bullfrog carburetor.

If I ever get any spare time, I will try to put together a separate thread on that one. I did have success modifying the carburetor body slightly (increased the counter bore) for the NLA duck bill valve to let it accept the red Homelite duck bill, seemed to work just fine.

There are several variations of the 10 Series flat back, single and double needle and about 5 or 6 different variations on the primers.

I have a pro mac 10-10 that I got from my dad. He used it for years in construction and I use it now for buckin up fire wood when I want to make some real noise.

Some of the older Macs even make more noise...My 1-40 for example, doesn't have a muffler, only that stack and it can be ear splitting for most people.

I remember this saw sitting in the shed when I was little and it had no bar on it. I put some gas in it and got it started, boy did i get it for that, but thats how it started. years later dad got it tuned up and gave it to me. This saw has been with use for 35 plus years I would like to put a piston in it.

Yeah, my 250 with the weed burner is fun to run. Almost as loud as a certain other manufacturer that shall not be named in this thread that only has a screen and a deflector. :hmm3grin2orange:

Picking up another "original" 797 this Sat from a retired logger he says he's the original owner it's very clean and a very very strong running saw with high compression and clean piston/jug. He said he had some old Mac roller bars for sale and I asked if he had any old Mac saws he said he has a 797.....well he had a 797:hmm3grin2orange:

Thanks for rubbing it in. How about hooking me up with one of those roller bars. I'm looking for one in the 24"-28" range.

Oh, and what do I need to do to get a couple of those velocity stacks?
