DE-80 wont run

This saw is my first total rebuild. I put new rings, bearings, crank seals, carb kit, fuel line, filter etc. Started the saw and ran really good. Ran it maybe 30 minutes playing with it. Then it got idling high and died. So I assumbed air leak. I took it back apart and sealed off muffler and intake with a piece of ta floor mat and put a little pressure to it. The clutch side crank seal had a little leak. So I ordered another. Got it put in this evening and vac tested good. Put it all back togther and it still wont run. It will start and idle then I go to give it some throttle and it will die and is hard to start again. What the hell is going on here? I thought I covered all bases. Now Im getting very frustrated.

You might have got a little dirt in the carb during the process. If it were mine I'd soak the carb in cleaner then check the diaphragms etc. If it holds pressure in the crankcase it's probably nothing big wrong with it, might even be an intermittent coil or something like that.

How many turns do you have your high and low adjustment needles out? And, what carb do you have on the saw?

i like the thought of a carb problems like has been said, where in GA are you?

When I rebuilt the carb I let it soak in carb cleaner overnight. Then washed it out with water and compressed air. The carb is a walbro sd85. The low speed screw is out 1 turn and the high speed is a little over 1 turn. Thats were I set it before when It ran right after I got done with it. Im in Griffin Ga. Its about 50 miles south of Atlanta.

i used to live in perry GA, not that far from you. i worked in Dalton GA today and i work alot in north georgia but usually don't get down south of ATL. i was hoping for a chance to hang out with a fellow Mac man.

did you try priming the carb with some mixed fuel?

One other possibility is to check the inlet lever again on the carb just to make sure it's right. If it's set too low it will cause the symptoms you describe. (Not enough fuel even though the H and L screws are adjusted the same as before.
I sometimes have soaked carbs twice just to make sure they're clean.

You say that it idles good, but bogs when you hit the throttle? Open the low out to about 1-1/8 turns and see if that helps. A lot of times a saw will bog when you blip the throttle if it's a little lean on the low side. If that doesn't help I would check the carb out again. What brand fuel line did you use to replace the old one? I have had a brand new stens fuel line to have a pin hole in it. It drove me carzy trying to figure out why my saw was starving for fuel.

Im not sure what you mean by inlet lever. And yes I tried riching it up and it made no difference. It was running great for 30 mins or so like I said then it started acting stupid. I guess I'll check the carb out again tomarrow. The fuel line I got from a guy on ebay- Randys Engine Repair, along with everything else I got.

Well the 1-86 is now a runner. Rebuilt the carb, actually rebuilt two different carbs. One just would not work. I understand now why a lot of people switch to the tillotson's. The HL I rebuilt on my super 250 took right off no problem. This 1-86 I pulled and pulled on. Still not running perfect either. When they are runners they get a bar.

HUBBA HUBBA! Cant wait to get my 1-76 going.

I'd guess he carb, also. Sounds like my 250 after I cleaned it up and it had a little piece of the old diaphragm that had gotten into one of the passages.

The inlet lever is under the metering diaphragm. The end of it touches the diaphragm in the center. That lever is supposed to be level in most cases, not pointed up on the end nor pointing down. There's a spring under it and an inlet needle that goes up and down and lets fuel in. Walbro makes a gauge for checking the lever height, it's shaped like a "W", Zama has one shaped like a "Z". I don't know if Tillotson has one. Any time you rebuild a carb or put new gaskets in it you should check that lever for wear or bending and for height. If you buy a full rebuild kit for that carb the lever should be in the kit.

I'm in Houston Co. We could meet and I would sympathize with ya' if nothing else.

My latest rebuild has a nice hot spark but I can't get it to pop off even with Pyroil (the top end is oiled nicely). I'm wondering if it is possible to have the timing so screwed up it won't ignite... doubtful with ether...

I'm modding a poulan muffler while my head digests the Mac problem.

is your tank vent okay?

Ran for a while - reved high - neg pressure in tank leading to lean/high-rev then stop? Now it starts and idles, but dies after throttle and then hard to start - neg pressure in tank starving it?

=== sealed off muffler and intake with a piece of ta floor mat ===

what's that?

I keep forgetting about venting the tank. Yep, loosen the gas cap and see if it does any better.

Good friday fella's. I came across a few McCulloch chainsaws at the scrap heap today. One is a bare bones 10-10 I grabbed just in case I needed a few parts for the other two. The next is a SP60, Pic.

From what I have gathered the SP60 is not the best 10X series saw but I grabbed it for the perfect AV on it for my next saw. Pic.

Not sure which model this is so I'm posting it here to see what you all think.

Mod# 600439D
Ser#14-038479

It has no filter cover but has operator presence lever which is also the throttle lock, fully adjustable carb with the adjustments on the side of the tank, and a reed style muffler. Here is a video of it running.
