Cascade Saw

well, bad news about the CP70L, heavy scoring on the piston, I think I can save the cylinder but it will need a new piston and rings, from the looks of the carb the H needle was only out about 3/4 turn, may have been run lean. Oh well in a bucket it goes and the PM850 will get its turn on the bench.

Bad Randy. How dare you look to profit from our friend's misfortune?

However........I WAS wondering to myself whether or not I could scrounge up an oversized piston and rings cheap enough to make talking Jim out of his "junk" saw and having the jug bored a worthwhile pursuit...:jester:

I'm in with the Mac group!

I go this in the mail yesterday from mattinky (thanks much Matt). Not quite were I want it yet: needs at least a carb rebuild and air cleaner, and probably a b/c, ... but i like it!

.oh , and a few mac bars . sprocket and rollers.

I saw some pics of that 797, it turned out very nice.

Thanks Randy...That was the Super 797 I have been restoring over the winter. I just got the Original 797 block back Tuesday so I have not put that one back together yet but I can assure you it will look brand new when I'm done and will post some pic's.

I matched your Falcon color on the Super:clap::clap::clap:

I just picked up the little one. I know they're not the good stuff, and I said I wouldn't get anything but strato saws, but it was cheap and I couldn't resist since it matched.

Actually it's had very little use. The cylinder is almost perfect. There is some bar wear, and it looks like it was run with the chain having jumped out of the bar groove in the back. The bar was damaged a bit but still usable after straightening out that spot. The chain looks new. The fuel lines were rotted.

So it was probably run with a loose chain, the chain was replaced and then it sat with the lines rotting out. Now it runs like a top. I kinda like the little wart, it's very light. Naturally I modded the muffler before I even tried to start it. I'll probably pick up a 14" bar and chain for it. Eventually it will be used to teach my son, but only initially and then he gets something strato if he's interested.

I have a dilemma and would like your input. I have a CP70L with a bad P&C and good body work. I also have a PM850 that has a great P&C but the body work is busted or missing. I am wondering if it is feasible and ethical to put the heart of the 850 into the body of the CP70? From the looks of things everything should match up. I basically want to make it a sleeper CP70 but don't want to cross any invisible line with the saw gods.

Yep. It will work just fine. Then you can send me all the leftover 81 parts.:msp_biggrin:
