Being completely new to chain of this size, what size file will I need for this chain on my 5-49?

Are the cutters equal? Mine were terrible so it made a couple passes through the grinder. We can do the same if you bring it along Friday.

Eyeballing it, they look pretty good. I did plan on bringing it. :msp_thumbsup:

I thought Mark would like to see it but since he didn't say a thing when I posted the pictures, I'm assuming he doesn't care. :msp_sad:

Mark stated that he's in transit from BFE or some such place. He will be home briefly (while scrambling to load up the McRandger and the McTrailer), then will be heading to the GTG. Methinks he has precious little computer time. I woundn't get your sweatpants in a bunch due to Mark's lack of comments about that 5-49 of yours Steve...:D

Its seems he has little interest in the two man saws. Mentioned that I had three and he declined to even stop by to look. Hard to believe he would disregard any one of the Mac family?????

IIRC Mark's brother has at least one of 'em. Can't remember if Mark has any 2-man Macs himself. He plays with the early PM-6/mini-mac saws..........I can't immagine why he'd disregard any of the REAL Macs....

Aaron - Buenos Aires (Argentina) EZE airport, long journey home and when I did finally make it, Mweba left before Josh and family had the tree all cut, split, and delivered so I had to change clothes and help finish that project.

Mweba - I haven't been home much this year, I will make it out and see what you've managed with your portion of the haul some day...

Wendel - I'd start with 1/4", works on the 1/2" and 9/16" pitch chains that I have. If yours is 3/4" pitch it might require a 5/16" round file but I don't know that I've seen many of those.

Mrs. Heimann informed me today "no more saws...until I can walk throught the garage again..." Guess I will have to get a few more moved out when I am home again after the GTG.

I do have a couple of "two man" saws, for example this wonderful example of the 3-25 with stinger...

I can put one of those stingers on the other end of my 840 with 48" bar as well.

I don't have room for any real two man saws at this moment. As I looked through my list of saws "needed" to complete the collection of one man from 1948-1978 I find I've had a pretty good run in the past 12 months or so. Still a bunch of 10 Series gear drives and a few obscure models like the Pro Mac 850 Super, 39, 49, CP125, 797, oh well, still a long way to go.

Plenty of room to walk in there, but if you must get rid of a few, I can help you out. Do not pay any attention to others that offer-they are only thinking of themselves.

Just came in after spending the majority of the day cleaning up the 5-49. It's amazing how many nooks and crannies this saw has.

Took off the filter bowl to clean out the varnish but the screen and gasket seemed very well fused in place and since I didn't want to ruin a part that is NLA, I left it alone. After putting the bowl back in place, I filled the gas tank to start loosening what is left in there. Unfortunately, gas is leaking from around the bowl and also the gasket medial to the bowl.

Finally had time to read the manual and found that a 3/8's file is required. The saw has 1/2" Circle F chain.

Mac 110:

After joeymt33 put up his mini mac vid it made me think of my 110. I said this saw was a piece of junk for years and then went through it one more time. After that it started right up and ran great. Well it's been sitting for a long time and I wondered if it had turned back into junk. No it haden't! In the video I pulled the rope six times thinking it went bad again and then I looked at it and saw that I had the switch off. I turned the switch to run and on the next pull she fired up.

Not so bad after all.

there are alot of haters out there, i like the the mini macs though. i still like about all the other macs better though. you got a nice little saw there, they can be handy sometimes.

I still have room for two others. (cough, cough, ahem)
My mail box has been empty, no big boxes from Kali clogging up the steps.

Yep. That dang orange JD parts saw and the big yeller thing are indeed taking up room here. They'll be headed east to the land of the packer-backers soon. And they'll be 'clogging up the steps' unless you have a HUGE mailbox.

While I'm at it, here's the 1-52 from the earlier post.

The large chips on the ground (in the still photo) are from the 3/4" chain on the 211.
