101mc kart saw build.

Ya or Na? Do I cut up a running SP105 for a kart saw and save my self some headaches?

What I'm working with is a 101mc with a BDC22 carb and sloper intake, and to start my build of a kart saw I disassembled a S44 to see how that would go and found that the fuel tank will need to be cut quite a bit to clear the sloper intake. I want to use the existing fuel tank and keep the saw stock looking as much as possible so I didn't go any further and in a box the S44 went. Next I gave a 1-76 a quick look and again the fuel tank looks like it would be a problem and require a section being cut out to clear the intake so back on the shelf that saw went. Grabbed a 200 next and began the tear down. Started doing a mock up assembly by installing the fuel tank with stuffer onto the 101 block and this is the best progress I've had so far. Next I grabbed the flywheel side engine case from the 101 to see if it fit's on the block and clears the tank and that would be a no go. Not giving up completely on the 200 quite yet.

So after reading about the other kart saw builds that used a 125 chassis, I'm now at the point of deciding if I should cut up a perfectly good 105. It's still going to be a tedious build but probably the best route to take. Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome.

Looked at my MAC 15 too but passed on that idea.

I suggest you sell your 105 and use the proceeds to buy used or NOS SP125 tank/chassis pieces, new AV mounts, and other parts you can use to build your Kart saw. You don't need to start with a complete saw (with many parts that you will replace or ditch anyways). Not too many running 105's out there. Lots of parted out SP125's...

Have a chance to get a Super 250 or a Super 44. Both need work but the super 250 needs more attention then the S44 but very doable either way. Prices are close and both reasonable but I only want one project at a time, so which one and why? I know you clowns will say get both but that's off the list. :hmm3grin2orange:

Anyone else with some Feedback?:help:

I can't speak from experience as my S250 is not running yet, but as I understand it the Super 250 is an exceptional saw. Has the automatic oiler, the only 44 series saw that has one is the s44a. The S250 also has more aggressive porting which gives it more power. As Mark is fond of saying, the S250 has more snot. If you have neither and can only get one, I would go for the S250. But as previously stated, you really need both :hmm3grin2orange:

Too many projects???

What is the kid talking about?

If you have to choose one, start with the Super 250. If you make it through that project the S44 will be that much easier.

I have a few parts in the attic that might help, but no complete 105/125 to start with.

If you want to go the S44 route but don't want to cut up one of your own, I can find a donor. I owe you one in any case...

If that doesn't work for you, find a new/used tank and just work from there. Many of the other parts will be available individually (front handle, mounts, oil tank, etc.) and you will still have your SP105.

I admire your enthusiasm but that pile of saws would give me severe OCD unless all of them were in working, ready to be used condition!

Another vote for the Super250, looks like this is the saw of choice untill I hear otherwise.

Some of us only have room to take one or two apart at a time. Besides if the saws were close together I'd get the parts mixed up.

Go for the S250 if the jug is good. Lots inter-changeability with the 1-XX series.
The low-profile look of that series is kinda cool.

Thanks for your input, S250 is favored still among the AS crew.

Im going to add another saw in the mix, decent condition with a few issues but its complete. This one will need a carb kit for sure but runs on a prime as well. Its a 1-76

All these run on a prime.....

S250 (needs most work, possible ring replacement and carb work as well as full cosmetics)

S44 (needs carb work and b/c)

1-76(needs carb work)

So far the s250 has about 5 votes, all others zero. Your imput will decide which one I pull the paying trigger on.........then you will see a pic of it........then a pic completed.
