I'm not that good at identifying the 2-man Macs yet. Somebody here will nail it shortly I'm sure. Doesn't it have the model number on the tag on top (opposite of the air filter)? You should also post that beast up in the 2-man saw thread.

5-49 and 1225A look pretty much the same. Its more likely a 5-49.

Look at the ID tag, should read 549 then more numbers.

Most of the tags look like this one.

Glad that you shoved that one with the orange top in the corner for this thread:hmm3grin2orange:

lol. well i have a small saw shed so i am litterally tripping over saws. big ones like that mac 5-49 are really fun to try and store. gotta see if the wife will let me put it under the bed.

I don't know about that. She might like it... unless the exhaust fumes start choking you out.

Probably wont be any smoke coming out of that thing for a while........ well maybe..... havent checked it for spark yet but the throttle is broke and the fuel tank looks pretty ugly inside.

You did very well Steve! Those are both indeed D-44's. They're the only top tank direct drive Macs to use those two little individual brackets for the handlebar. The Super-44 and all later top tank Macs used the one piece bracket like what's on your 1-70. Sometimes they didn't stamp any useful numbers on the block. Many Super 250's are that way. My 790 has nothing but gibberish stamped on it too.

That 10-10 will be pretty once you clean it up. Looks to be a protective layer of scum on top of very nice paint. When I get saws like that, I wipe 'em down with a mixture of 2/3 Kerosene and 1/3 ATF. Sometimes I use WD-40 instead of the Kerosene. Oils them down, cleans them, and prevents corrosion. Scrub off any 'white death' with an oiled skotch brite type kitchen scrubber, or use some oiled sandpaper on spots where the corrosion is really coming up.

Now Fir where are the PM10-10 and PM850 pics?????:D

Thanks Aaron. I have a 44 Super that has the individual bar mounts though. Typical McC.

These guys are down in the "get to em eventually" shed. I've got 3 or 4 fix & sell saws to deal with before I can work on these.

Nice 5-49 Jeepy. I've got a locked up brother to that one in the shed, and I have a neighbor with one that turns over, but he won't give up. Wendell has a nice one as well, but last I knew, needed a bit of carb work. They ain't no 99, but they are a cool old saw,

Interesting. Every S-44 and S-44A I've seen (including the one near me that I'll be picking up soon) has had the one piece bracket. I hear you on the "get to 'em eventually" shed (or in my case "shelves"). I've got "get to it soon" shelves (and cardboard on the floor), as well as "after the soon's" shelves................and "will get to it somday" shelves. Those last ones are next to the parts saws....:help:

Spent the entire weekend (Fri-Sat-Sun) helping young son Josh tear off and replace the roof on his wife's grandmothers house, nice to get back to the office and sit down!

My IPL's show the D-44 with only the "strap" on either end of the tank affixed to the front wrap handle bar, the S44 and S44A both show the bracket across the front/top of the fuel tank and the straps fixing the handle to the bracket on either end.

My saws are set up the same way.

Steve may have an D-44 that someone swapped the AF cover, or may have hybridized one from several donors.

My one and only is a Pro Mac 610 that I bought new in 1988 or 1989. It gets used and abused rather than being a garage queen.

Next saw project for me.....

Have a chance to get a Super 250 or a Super 44. Both need work but the super 250 needs more attention then the S44 but very doable either way. Prices are close and both reasonable but I only want one project at a time, so which one and why? I know you clowns will say get both but that's off the list. :hmm3grin2orange:
