... must you taunt me like this? I've been thinking about how nice it'd be to run a 10-10 rather than a 610. As much as I like them damn near impossible to kill cinder blocks...

Parts run tomorrow... gonna find what I need for the 790. Crank seals, gasket material, 1/2" lower transfer welch plugs, bar nuts, and stuff like that. Small handful of odds and ends are all that is keeping the saw in pieces right now. I've got everything painted and ready to go.

LOL.:hmm3grin2orange:

They're not exactly hard to find or expensive. 'Round here, the damn cinderblocks are always listed for more money on CL than 10-10's.

Never seen one in my area. I don't check every day though. Wish I could, though. Problem is I'd get sick for missing all of these deals because I don't have much to spend on anything to begin with. I am working but that money is still going to the couple grand that I have in student loans. I wish I didn't go to college. :bang:

Oh waiter!

When I go through all my before I move, you can have any 10-10 stuff left over, that could be 30-40 pounds of cruddy crap to make a couple 10s with. Your's for the shipping.

Oh balloon juice, Kyle!

I see one show up within reasonable distance of Grand Rapids at least once every 6 weeks or so. South Bend is crawling with 'em. The Emperor made a very generous offer to you, BTW ...

Stay in school and never stop learning, dammit!

I learn some stuff in school, but learn more from folks like you guys and my neighbor.

To be honest, I'm not really that satisfied with the schooling I've received. I know it was cheap compared to UTI, etc. but that doesn't mean I don't want to learn new stuff. A lot of it is repeat from when I went to technical school during my high school years.

I'm considering going into pipe welding. Yes, going away for a few months at a time can be a bit of a pain, but at least you can earn good money, which is truly hard these days. Most folks have actually lost up to half of the usual wage simply because money is tight all the way around. (except for those extremely rich #######s, of course)

I find welding to be fun and challenging.

If I could find a decent pay logging job nearby, I might be tempted to try that. And yes, I would be running a McCulloch.

Randy, find out how much the shipping would be for all of that and let me know... a pile of good parts is never a bad thing to have... especially if it means more yellow saws every time you put some together...

Well, I've been trying to start this 203 psi sp80 with no luck. First attempt it pulled the knot through the handle. Second attempt I broke a new rope! The decomp is pushed in for both attempts. I checked to make sure the decomp works, it does. It pulls over easy if you pull slow. Damn it, this is the same pull rope that I've bought in bulk and used on most of my saws. The large frame macs use a larger rope, maybe I can get enough of that rope in this spool to start it?

Remember, this is the same saw that I broke the starter housing earlier!

Joey, quick while no one's watching or listening tell me what you think I have gotten into with the SP40 that arrived today. Seller had rebuilt the carb but now it leaks fuel; he thought it needs a new fuel line. I forgot these things had plastic tanks. It is not sucking air so I wondering if he broke the tank reassembling it. What do you think? It has been thirty years since I have been into a saw like this. Thanks, Ron

Bigger rope is definitely better as you get more leverage. You think maybe something is misaligned? Oil in the cylinder? Ron

don't know joey. i do know i put a recoil on that block and tried to do a comp check and could not hold on to it. did not have a wrap on it so that did not help holding on to it. i just figured that it was a soild top end. timing?

well, i found another rope that is alittle larger in diameter. i can start it now and have done so several times with out breaking anything. i made sure that all 10 screws are tight that are on the cover. it really helps to find TDC before you pull and then make sure that the decomp is pushed in. it runs really nice, i haven't cut with it yet though. there is a bright flame coming from the muffler with out a baffle for cover

i hope not, but those plastic tanks will crack at the seams where they are melted together. hopefully its just a fuel line. they take the same tank as the mini macs if i remember correctly. if you need any parts, i got you covered for sure.

Is the engine tight somewhere else, like a main bearing? When you push the de-comp it's supposed to pull over easy.

It pulls over easy and smooth I you pull slow with the decomp pushed in. But if you yank on it with the piston at BDC, it will make you pay. I do have to reset the decomp if it doesnt start on the first pull. Maybe that's why it broke the rope, the decomp may have prematurely popped out. All I know is, that thing sounds sweet and torques in my hands when I throttle it. I can't wait to make some cuts. I got to travel to Charlotte NC for the next few days so I won't be able to cut until the weekend.

I do. Wonder why the SP40 as a "pro" saw came with a fixed jet and the MAC510 a "farm" saw came with a full adjustable carb? Ron

I've got the carb you need and the fuel tank if you need to replace one that's broke. I'm leaving in the morning. Do you want me to throw that stuff in the truck and bring it by?

I can also bring a bar and chain if you need that. Or anything else you can think of.

Probably because the "pros" thought they could tune a saw and would sometimes screw it up. The average guy with a farm saw was too scared to tune it.
