What a weak, wimpy saw that is. No power, and no compression. BroncoRN will be terribly disappointed in it I'm sure....:jester:

Man that's a beast. Didn't even slow down when it started cutting into the two bottom logs under the single. Good job Joey!

I'm not surprised that it pulled 3/8-8 so well in that wood. My high hours SP-81 still runs a 32" bar (with a 3/8-7 rim) burried in Maple just fine. Your video makes me wanna rebuild my second SP-81 (roached and locked up) with the NOS parts now sitting on a shelf in the bedroom.:D

If that's the same clutch that was on the saw when BroncoRN got it from that ebay *******, then who knows what sort of abuse it'd been through. Not surprising that the spider/hub failed. Glad that you and the saw weren't harmed.

Mark, if your muffler body is an 850 (5 sided) then I have this if you need it:

The plate is thick so a little sanding will make it as new. The reed I assume can be flipped; it is now flush with the stop instead of flush with the plate. The reed stop is rough (it has the look of chain rash) but you can make it work. A new reed stop is available: McCULLOCH SUPER PRO 81, 81E, 80, PRO MAC850 NEW STOP REED PN 87193 | eBay

I don't know about you as a veteran collector but I find myself equating everything to the cost of a "new" used saw so I tend to think a $50 muffler is expensive when I have $100 in the rest of the saw. This CAD is bad bad bad stuff; I take the family to dinner, get the check and instantly think I hope they enjoyed it as a couple more meals like that and I could have bought another saw. Ron

I need a handle bar for one of these little saws. I keep forgetting it but this pic reminded me. Anyone have one?

Teach me some tricks of the trade, please.

1) How do you detach the coil from the laminated frame? Is it just epoxied at the back? I am working on my SP70 project. The SP70 coil mount is different from the 700 electronic coil but the frame has the same dimensions.

2) I have never used JB Weld. I have two flywheel cover 10/24 screw holes stripped on my 805 project. I can get to both the front and back of the holes. I know I have to clean the surface. But do I drill the holes out any larger, or just stuff them full of JB Weld from the back side and re-drill and tap them after the JB Weld cures?

Thanks, Ron

Sometimes the coil is retained with a spring or wire clip. Other times it's just a friction fit, or has a bit of epoxy or other adhesive holding it in place. Can't remember which method was used on the 10-series coils. Sorry I'm not much help...

is there enough metal to use a heli-coil on the stripped threads?

Thanks Ron, I will try to put that saw in some wood tomorrow and figure out where to go from here. $50 is a lot for a muffler but I don't have too much in this project so far and could stand a little outlay. I shall report back.

MMInd - I have two or three NOS handle kits for the Power Mac 6, one original banana type and a couple of the later 1/2 wrap type. PM me if you are interested and I can shoot you a price. These came in my big haul some weeks back and I did pay a tad for the whole lot so I need to recover a little something for them.
