The 180 is priced at $180 with 2 chains included because I have purchased 2 saws and a dozen chains from the dealer in the last year. I cut about 12 cords of firewood for personal use each year. I am cleaning up land from my parents, in-laws, and older neighbors properties that consists of downed trees and dead standing.

One of the nice things about a Stihl dealer is the list price on the saw is negotiable normally. The other thing is how long a particular saw has been sitting on the shelf and if they are wanting to move it.

I've got the quick adjuster on my 210, never had any trouble out of it. I have a 170 & if i had to pick one over the other it would be the 170.

I put an WTB add on the local CL, mentioning MS 170/180/210 or 250. Got an email and I called a guy with a 170 used just a few times, bar like new, chain still sharp, and he wants $150 with some 2.5 gallon Stihl mix and a gallon of Stihl bar lube, no case..... Hmmmmm your reply now has me thinking real hard at the 170.

I would think real hard on a used 170. Only reason that I say this is that saw was built as an economy line to give craftsman and pouland a run for their money. The 170 lists for 180 new.

All I am saying is be careful with a used low end saw....

Good discussion. I am trying to decide between a MS-180 12" and a MS-192 12" for limbing, brush, occasional in-tree work and light orchard duty. I have an MS 390 20" for general use, so I am looking for a light weight mobile saw for light duty cutting. Has anybody ran both of these? I am leaning towards the MS 180 because I don't know if the 192 is worth the extra $120, though it is almost 1.4 lbs lighter by the specs.
