Wood milage, lolololol, that was funny. Reminds me of this guy who bought a saw from me once, don't even recall the model now. He comes back snorting the dayummm thing burns so much fuel. I asked him how does it run, he says great. I ask him is if cuts good, he says cuts great. I said well ok then how many miles to the gallon is it getting. He gets all tissy and says very funny. I say yup was wasn't it,lol,. Haven't seen him around in a long time.....

To be honest Lake I never got the man's name. That is indeed a true story. He really got ticked at me and never came back. I figured just as well, don't have patience for non-sense like that. Besides he was probly running that saw wide open wasting fuel, lolol

That really hurts deep Lake.;)

About fuel usage....it's never been a factor for me. When you've got a 116hp chipper running and a DT466 in the chip truck the chainsaw fuel is the least of my worries.

I am for lower emissions though. You know we chainsaw operators must inhale a lot of chainsaw exhaust over the years and that's not a good thing.

Well Tree I was running a saw last week and noticed very obviously I wasn't getting that old 2cycle smell up in my face like I've been used to. Though it isn't your type of saw, don't say it, we KNOW, that 441 runs pretty durn clean compared to the saws before it. Now get up here and get one Tree, they is going fast..

Be careful, now I'm worried, first it's a few ounces to the saw, now your talking about lower emissions and fumes,,,,,,, have you changed your diet?

I'm starting to think that this 441 is just something to talk about with nothing to talk about.

Ok me thinks that this better gas savings is B.S.

You think so,lololololol. I drove my saw to town the other day and got 31 miles to the gallon, the 460 and 440 only get 23,:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

You have issues but I still like ya.
Alright now you have used your brand new shinny saw.
Now it's time to put it to some real test.
Like oil and gas usage. If I can cut more how much more.
Are we talking a half Face cord more or are we talking two sticks.
does the oil run dry before the gas or is it equal?

Well sit down oh young one and let gramp proceed to fill you in,lol. Fact is mine runs out of oil about the sametime it runs out of gas. Its oils well enough that there isn't any burn spots on my bar at all. The paint is still intact and looking pruty. My 460 drinks more fuel than Dan's big white truck. The 441 seems to run quite awhile on a tank of fuel. HOLDS ON A MINUTE HERE, WHAT, you aren't thinking about buying a 441 are you Manual, then again if ya are well hell I can't blames ya, come on by the shop, I'll fix ya up and I promise you I won't go "I TOLDS YA SO,lol

Well Manual all kididng aside if you lived near by I'd hand you mine and say go for it. Asking questions and all is ok for a ruff idea but hands on is the best way to measure a saw. Where you live anyway????

I used to work as a firefighter with the U.S. Forest Service. The 044 and then the MS440 have been the workhorses of the fire community for quite some time. There are other saws used by fire crews but the 044/MS440 is by far the most popular. When the first 046 came out my crew bought a few and liked them. Their gas guzzling nature became evident quickly because we had to carry all the gas and oil for the saws in cig bottles in our packs (dispersed through a twenty person crew). Even if the 441 is a bit heavier, if it uses less fuel than the MS440 and the MS460 it will take off with firefighters. I can't help but think that will be lucrative market for Stihl.

Anyone who has ever hiked all over the Western States carrying 6+ quarts of water, two lunches, a tool kit, spare socks, fusees, a med kit, a headlamp and extra batteries, a MRE, space blanket, fire shelter, a cig bottle of gas, a sig bottle of oil and a chainsaw slung over their shoulder, will appreciate a saw that is more fuel efficient.
