Here is a shot of the Infamous S-clip LOL

Picture015.jpg

On Poulans, put back plate on, then the S-clip

Picture014.jpg

Then the bar goes on, over the S-clip, and finally outer plate & cover.

Gregg,

Yes that would have solve my problem assuming the bolt spacing was correct. I wonder if someone makes various sizes of thos clips or if they are made specifically for Poulan...

Wait till Mark chimes in...:) He found some somplace that slip over the studs individually I believe. I've not seen them, or the S-Clips for sale anywhere yet.

Gregg,

Just to be perfectly clear on the mount pattern. When I bought the bar it was in theory crossed over to a D176 mount which is what my ProMac 650 needed. When I got it, it was not a D176 (slots were way to wide). SO I started digging in all of the Oregon mount pattern scans that the factory rep has sent me and decided it was almost identical to the D007 which is obsolete. Anyway the mount said is was for Poulans so that is how I listed it. If interested here is the scan that helped me figure this out.

Thanks for including the pdf of these fitments. It will be a big help to me in finding the right bar for my discontinued saw(s).

Oregon customer service has been quite helpful getting me this info. I guess some companies still give a crap about customer service...

Brian you are correct on all counts. You also point out the diffence in the bar mounts by different brands.

You cannot really compare the Windsor mount to the Oregon mount because there just a little bit different.

The Windsor mount is not actually a D096 Homelite mount and not exactly a D007 Pioneer mount either.

Like I have said many times the Windsor branded Poulan bars were just like the one you had and yes the slot is bigger.

Your also right that it would have worked on the Mac with stud spacers but you would have had to do a slight rework on the adjuster holes to oil through. The bolt spacing on the Mac is different then the Poulan though.

Most Oregon D176 and D096/D196 is already made to do this, but I have seen variations over the years.

Gregg,

Nope I even contacted Widsor on those S-Clips and they don't have them anymore evidently.

The other ones you mention was from Windsor. You will see some next week.

You guys were very helpful on the bar fittings I decided to go out and try one of my Husqvarna bars on the Mac 700. I didn't have a successful day. Although the bar seemed to fit, as luck would have it I couldn't get the chain to go on the sprocket. Just when I thought I had it, it would slip off. After doing that for a few minutes I decided to take it back apart and look closer. Upon examination I noticed half of the sprocket was missing! Now it'll have to sit till I come up with a sprocket.

Scrap yard find

Today i took a trip to the scrap yard with a load of old vending machies, some microwaves and an air conditioner. Usually my dad makes this trip but hes on vaca so i got dibs! I unloaded and asked the old timer working there if he had any old saws i could buy. he said take a look around. I looked and I found this nice, complete Craftaman 2.0 14'' sitting on an old grill. Looked it over, gave it a couple pulls, comp felt pretty good. I said how much? He said "your old mans a good customer, just take it". I got it home, the b&c are toast, but I had a feeling this saw might start. I dumped the gunk out of the tank, and pulled the muffler, nice and clean. Poured some fresh mix in, and in 4 pulls it popped!! Actually scared me! I got it to run, choppy but it ran and without even priming it let alone any real work. The sprocket is junk so that will be replaced, along with the usual. I guess it says alot for these saws. Who knows how long it sat in the rain and snow. So I got the saw and $140 in scrap! Was a good day.

530055044 S-clip

I have never been happy with the vertical slop in the bar on my 4200
& 5400; ordered these parts, but can't get them between bar & studs.
The back to front spacing is OK.
I either don't need them or maybe a little file work on the S-clip.

Using elcheapo plastic calipers

#530055044 S-clip.
I came up with .03" on thickness,
.23" top to bottom @ stud @
.61" end to end.
The last 2 measurements are O.D.
Also, I sourced these S-clips from OD in Alabama, they could be bootleg
or maybe just my shade tree mechanic error.

They still show on Outdoor Distributors site

They are listed for $1.28 each. I have had mixed results from O.D.,
just because they show items on their site does not mean they have them,
might want to call or e-mail customer service.
Also, the one in package I still have won't quite fit into bar top to
bottom; I think I have original Poulan bars. They fit otherwise. I am thinking
a little file work on these clips would be good fix

If you have original Poulan branded Oregon bars you should not need the spacers!

They were used for the Poulan branded Windsor bars as they had the 3/8's slot in them and needed to be shimed for the 5/16" studs.

Those S-Clips never were really snug like I would like but they do the job as long as you pull up on the end of the bar when adjusting the chain and tighten the studs tight.

The only way to get a real snug fit that I have found is to make my own spacers out of a piece of flat stock.

Kinda a PITA fileing to fit and such but it works.

Here is one on my 5200 to fit a Husky D009 bar. They have to be thin on these and there easier to make for the 3/8's slot.

Sionce this is the official Poulan thread I decided to ask this question on here. Is the BP655 really considered a Poulan or is it considered a Pioneer design? I will also be asking this question over on the Pioneer thread so maybe we will get some different views from both sides.

MM good looking job on the spacers

I mainly just wanted to pass along info on part # on clips in case somebody
could use it. My last two projects were carb kitting a Walbro WA-199 on a 15
year old weedeater I have a brush blade on & dragging out the Troy-Bilt
tiller and spraying carb cleaner into it. This has been a every year project
since I have had it, fixed jet design, no adjustments except for idle.

Looking forward to spring.

I noticed the daffodils were coming up; probably should be planting onions,
radish @ lettuce instead of fiddling with junk.
