Randy, Chris, Try this one, It is the only other one I could find.;)

...
Gregg,

Gregg, thanks, that doc has a lot of useful info! And that's the one I have (courtesy of someone here on AS) that I couldn't get to upload to Phtobucket :bang:. That list indicates that some Poulan models were rebadged under different names in Canada; maybe some AS members in Canada could :Eye:^:Eye: for the rare ones?

For some time I have been looking for a saw to learn repair on.
Sunday after Church a man that I go to church with gave me a PP295.
This thing is a hunk of junk. Ask and ye shall receive I guess.

Somewhere back in time the muffler fell off. He just kept on running it.
The piston is scored and most likely the cylinder as well. Have not had the compression checked yet but it feels very weak just pulling the starter.

The chain break melted off. The front of the top cover is all buggered up from over heating and from some homemade repairs.

I found a parts list on the web and printed it off. The part # on the list is 530088792.

Will soon be needing some parts.... and advice....

Question # 1
Can I or Should I buy new parts??? Or can I get them from you guys??? I have never traded on this site before.
Question # 2
Can I hop this little saw up so that it will cut better than a stock PP295??? If so, what would you guys recommend doing??

Will see if I can get some pix of it posted this evening when I get home.

It is supposed to run.:D

Thanks
David

David, there's a complete used 295 engine listed on eBay, it appears to be in pretty good shape. It's always possible that you could find locally a complete 295, 2900, 4620, etc. (a Craftsman equivalent might even be cheaper) that just needs some basic refreshing.

Mike (user name moparsomething :D) has had good luck getting more umph out of the 46cc Poulans.

I ran across a 3.3 Poulan "Bad Boy" Tim Allen signature saw at a pawn shop today. Starts, runs, and oils well, all original hardware. Is this saw worth $100?

I'm familiar with some of the older Poulan saws but don't know if this is a copy of one of those or not. Other than the purple color it's a good looking saw.

TIA, dd.

DD, yes, the Bad Boy is worth $100.00. Even better if they're willing to haggle ;).

I've seen a few 3400's come up badged as Canadian Tire Corp saws and a 25 series as a Weed Eater brand.

Thanks for the reply.
I did see that motor on the big-bay. But, I dont think I am going to need it.
Started messing around with the saw last night. The spark plug was just setting in the hole.
No wonder it had no comperssion.:msp_tongue:
The inside of the motor looked good. All but the front edge on the piston where it was crossing the open port. Remember it has no muffler.... It has chopped a few shavings on the up stroke and messed the piston up a little bit. Put a little bit of fuel in the tank and stared pulling. Nothing. Dropped a dab down the open port and pulled once more. It fired right off and went to full speed for a second. Good night all mighty what a sound. It never would start proper like. Going to have to rework the fule system. OH Well, I did want to learn.
I have a good parts saw on the line from our local C-list. Most likely it is in far better shape the saw I have now. Supposed to pick it up next week.
These PP295's come in Type 1, 2, 3 and 4. Mine is a type 3. Type 3's have that funkey, one piece, muffen muffler that everone seems to dislike. Does anyone know if a type two, two piece muffler will fit on a type 3 ???
I am going to start my on post under Chainsaw. This dont seem to be the right place for this.
Thanks
David

Just go to Poulan IPL's and look at the difference in the types when shown. By the way type 1 and 2 pull apart.

I'm sure glad nobody around here knows what a Dayton chainsaw is! I've picked up several of the 2Z463 Dayton versions of the Poulan 245. Been tinkering with the latest runner, a $20 2Z463B which I've gotten to run and cut with just about any of my newer saws, better than some..

Hmm, started laying out a few saws to bring this weekend.........

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions.

Mark, I guess that depends on the GVWR of that U-Haul. :D With Chris's heavy iron, you maybe could get a S25 or Micro or two in there, if ya carry one on your lap.:hmm3grin2orange:

How is the 71A co-operating? Don't seem it would be a Poulan GTG, without that one making a showing.:msp_thumbup:

Gregg,

Gregg, you hit the nail on the head. I hope he dont bring that one OLD Mac with him, I'll to bring the F-250 super duty if he does! :hmm3grin2orange:

Dont worry I think he has some dandys lined up for you to try.

The 71-A? Glad you asked. That thing just never has been right far as I was concerned. It never held a idle right and then at last years GTG it was flooding over.

Went through the carb again and I think it was a bad needle that time and that stopped the flooding but I still wasnt happy with it.

Just last Sunday when Chris was over we tore it down and put a set of crank seals in it. Bingo! It now starts and idles like it should and seems to be running real well. We made quite a few cuts with it and it was running great.

Its in the line up I started laying out. Its got the 31" on it right now but I'll bring the bow for it as well. Not sure why I like it so well, its heavy, strong, loud and obnoxious. Kinda like some of the women I have known.

I cant get in the mood to sharpen chain etc for my chainsaws right now for a gtg. Been cutting and working on others saws almost everyday. Burned out. :msp_mellow:

May just be bringing the 1 saw for delivery and just relax and run your guys saws for better cut times for you if you dont mind. ;)

Is there any special requested newer poulans from 90's or another brand?

I would still like to run a 5020 if someone has one to bring.

Any one have a pic of the Super 33 muffler? I'll do some more digging.

Somebody make sure one of these types are running and cutting at the gtg. I would like to hear these idling and in the cut with these non mufflers.

That is the kind of muffler my uncle had on his Poulan when I was a kid.
I wish I could remember what model it was. My 3 cousins, my sister and I would literally have fist fights to see who would have to hold the smaller limbs while my uncle cut them to length.
I (being the smallest) would usually lose and I think that is why my ears are so sensitive today.
It wasn't so bad running it, or standing off in the distance, but standing right beside the bar was just child abuse.
