Well, once again saws like this don't show up much around here. There are rare birds that show up from time to time such as a two man diston, but the guy wanted $500 and I just couldn't pay that. When I saw this one, I figured this was one of those once in a lifetime shots at a poulan 306 LOCALLY, so I offered him $20 and he took it. If it get's too frustrating I'll part it out for money for another poulan.

Well get it apart and see what you need, we can help ya. Not sure about NOS rings but I'm sure somthing could be made up, I think I used some Stihl 290 rings in one that I have here, just took a little file fitting and there working great.

The last GTG I went to I told rms61moparman that I needed more "cool" saws. Mike replied with "well that's easy, just start buying old poulans and problem solved". This is my start. The bad part is, the spark plug whole is messed up and the piston is lightly scored. I am pretty sure
I can handle the spark plug whole and get it running, but the thought of a helicoil makes me cringe. The guy had a push mower spark plug in it :dizzy:. He also had an echo 650, but it was missing too many parts for me to make an offer and looked like it had bad piston damage where someone had stuck something in the intake to stop it.

If your jug is beyond use shoot me a pm as I've got several here for parts and I'm sure we could find a decent jug......

What would be a ballpark Sears model number for this: Vintage Sears McCulloch Homelite Chainsaw for Parts or Repair | eBay

Just for giggles I want to see what Sears parts are available.

Carl you need to be careful with Sears. Even though they list items in stock...............they don't really always have them. Last year I ordered some 19042 crank seals (PTO side for 306/245 saws) because they showed them in stock ($4.99 each). After months of waiting and back-and-forth email BS...........they told me that the parts weren't available and credited my card. They STILL show those seals as being in stock and available for order....

Well guys it just gets better and better. The 330 I recently bought off evil bay had a perfect piston when I pulled the muffler. There is a member here that Pm'd me about buying it and I put a price on it we agreed to but I had to go through it first and I made the decision to pull the jug and remove the base gasket, now this is where things get real interesting........It is not a 54cc 330 but a 49mm Super 380 jug with the improved ports. It is not getting a port job but would be a fine candidate.

Just goes to show with Poulan there was no rhyme or reason for what they did but sometimes you get more than what you paid for. BTW, this saw is perfect inside and the only problem I've found is the vent was messed up. I will be repairing this by using the old style vent through the top of the tank with the extra line and plugging the side vent by tapping and installing a flush allen head set screw with motoseal on it. I figure this should be good forever........

Randy can you be sure that the 380 jug was on it when it left the factory? I have a hard time believing that it did, even the 3450's that got the 60cc top end had it pointed out in the IPL's. Dont think I ever seen it pointed out in a 330 IPL but I dont admit to seeing every one.

I scratch my head every time I think about why Poulan decided to move that vent from the top where you could get at it easily.

I dont see nothing wrong with what your doing to it though.

I'm just taking a break right now from working on this 8500 restore. Getting this paint/powder coat or what ever the hell is on this thing off has turned into a job from hell....

Starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel now though.

Mark, I can't tell you what was on it when it left the factory but I know what's on it now and this is a low hour saw.......I have seen nothing to lead me to believe it's not factory.

Yeah we just never know do we?

Could have been a new saw straight gassed and the dealer put a 6occ top on it when repairing it but you never know. Not saying it didnt come that way but I'm leary about that.

5200 No Spark

Hi All: I have a 5200 that I put away a year ago. Took it out today to just get it running for awhile and no spark.
l looked at it quickly and everything looks OK, no disconnected wires, air gap is good.
Any ideas? Where is a good place to start?

Any suggestions appreciated, looking to move to a smaller, lighter saw.

Thank you.

Ign parts useally dont go bad just sitting but I guess its possible. Did you disconnect the switch and check it then? Could have a bare wire behing the flywheel or you could have a coil or module go bad. Not sure how to test them for sure.

What Lacrosse you from? Indiana or Wisconson?

Well my first suggestion is for you to trade it for one of my "smaller lighter saws" and not worry about what's wrong with it!!!!!
