Of course, I know the answers but, will refrain. Nice aluminum welding though!

Yes it was a nice repair on the handle, but I can't take credit for that. It went with one of the pipefitter boss's to there apprenticeship welding school (in the peoples republik of Illinois) and he got it done for me.

I have not mastered the Tig yet and I wasn't going to practice on this!!

Wow! Your on a roll lately Mark:yourock: A truck load of saws + a bunch of dandy old accessory goodies! Not to mention the the big PPro comming..

Gregg,

Yeah, timing is everything! I have know about that truck load for 2 years, and the time just came together the other day.

I hear ya, Gregg! I ain't gonna feel sorry for him anymore.

Aw man.....

That is a nice bow set up for one of your 245s.

You hit that one on the head, by saying the set up. That whole complete setup is getting harder to find with all of it in one place.

I had to leave the power head behind (probably just parts anyway) on this setup to get the CL seller to ship that to me from South Carolina.

Was just gonna change the fuel lines on my 4000 then

I wound up pulling the, carb intake, flywheel, coil and P/C. It was running lean, so I figured Id change the old lines and rebuild the carb even tho the PO said he had already. Its a good think I checked cause the intake gasket was decomposed and it was sucking and and all sorts of other crap. Then I notice the ex. port was loaded with carbon. So I started to dremel it off. I blew compressed air thru the plug hole to get the dust out. But this scared me and seemed like a bad idea! So i pulled the jug and did it right. I also used some copper gasket seal. i read about others using and being happy, plus it should bump up the compression a bit, it will be thinner than the gasket. So this one should be better than new when I'm done. So glad I didnt take it last week to cut wood!

Looking good Joe! I'm jealous when I see someone working on a super clean 4000 like that.
I suppose there is no need to tell you, but there is somebody on ebay that has been selling the gasket kits for alot of the older Poulans. The kit has that intake gasket in it.
I bought one of those gasket kits for a S25 awhile back, and used it the other day..LOL I had to tear one apart, just to see how they were put together.:) Replaced the seals also just for kicks. The saw runs great too. So, I now have 3 of those S25DA's in great running condition.
Good luck with the 4000, thats a beauty!

Joe them old Poulans are pretty tough, I had a friend bring me his 4000 here a few weeks back complaining how it had been reving way high and screaming. He went ahead and run it till it quit!!!!

I expected the worse when I found the 2 bolts holding that intake manifold had broken completly off and was the reason for his air leak.

Believe it or not the P/C was still perfect! I pulled the jug to remove the broken bolts and that did make me pretty nervous. Pretty tough drilling holes centered in a # 10 bolt.

I got em drilled but they didn't want to turn out easy with a easy out, but after a few heatings and coolings with a propane torch they finally came out.

Put a new gasket back in with 2 new screws and back to the woodpile it went.

I have seen more then one intake gasket look like yours and I'm not exactly sure how they get that way but everyone can see they need to check there saws for this.

They are tough for sure Mark. I noticed those bolts were loose. What you think of that gasket I used?

I don't know why they call them "easy outs". I've seldom found anything easy about them!

Are you talking about the copper stuff for a base gasket? If so I don't know about that stuff, never had any or used any. Personally on a stock saw like that I prefer a regular gasket. Seems it would be much more durable and put my mind at ease.

That said I have done just a couple without a gasket and the old standby #2 permatex works fine for me. What did you use for a intake gasket? I hope a regular type gasket was used there.

I hear ya but I guess it was still easier then drilling all the way out and retapping.
