Got my 3400-4000 manual today, loaded with good info.

Yea, Joe its one of the better manuals around. Excellent explanation on how to work on the saws. Much easier to read than Stihl Manuals.
Bob

I havent seen a Stihl manual but its better than my Dolmar one. That is a "safety" manual and recommends you bring the saw to the dealer for any job bigger than a plug change. My Craftsman 3.7 manual and Mac 4300 are both good like the Poulan one.

You should have said somthing, I have that on PDF already and thought I had sent it to most here already!

Poulan Pro arrived

Well the Poulan Pro 475's arrived today! Not much time to get into them much but the runner aint bad, and the parts saw looks pretty much there, and the cyl looks like it can be cleaned up and it can probably be put back together sometime.

The runner is a little low on compression and the piston has a little scoreing on it, but I'm guessing the cyl is good to go on it. I think I will probably tear it down for a piston, rings, and some general going over on the fuel system, vac test etc.

To busy for pics but will try to get some in the next couple of days.

Don't know what it is

I do not know what it is but I will grab my muffler modded only 3700 poulan everytime, even though I have a brand new ported and modded 372xp sitting on the bench. It is either the green color, the nostalgia of a 20 plus year old saw that has some metal in the covers or some combination. It runs great, idles nice and just feels good in my hands.

I doubt if these newer plastic saws will be around for nearly as long as the metal ones have lasted unless you don't use them. I have several metal saws and I plan on keeping them for a long time. I collecting lots of spare parts for them as well.

The 372XP is the real deal. It is the new world equal of our old Poulan 4200 with a little less weight and a few more revs. It will probably be around for a long time. It flat works!:clap:

If you're right about it lasting, better keep some extra plastic parts. You know how things get bounced around, even when you're careful.

Just to make sure I understand this correctly.

.325" spur sprocket can/will work with 3/8" Low Profile chain? And visa-versa, mini 3/8" spur sprocket can/will work with a .325" chain?

This is about my PP260 and 3300.

Kevin

I dissected my chrome piped Craftsman 2.3/16" last night. It has 150psi comp and ran strong. The saw it's self is clean. It just had a "owner problem" somewhere along the way.
The recoil starter pawl is broken and the right case is broken.
I'm getting ready to snipe a Poulan 2000 to build a hybrid. I hope it's the right saw.

The Craftsman saw seems to be a re branded XXV Deluxe.
What's the difference between a XXV and a 2000?

Now what is your best offer for that? I would try $30 and go from there.

Well, it looks pretty good, and he already rebuilt the carb and new fuel line so I settled on $40. Ill look it over, but thats ALOT of saw right there for the price. I have never been disapointed in mine anyway:greenchainsaw:

I think it depends on the year of the saws...The 2000 I just sold didn't share very many parts at all with my older (metal) Poulan/Craftsman saws. If they're about the same age and look similar they probably have interchangeable parts.

Kevin, that is what is the Oregon website is saying but we know better.

Well I won it for $34 shipped. It looks right. I know my Craftsman has 6 more cc's. I'm hoping my new acquisition has the plastic gas tank. I wanna see how it looks with the green, black and red parts mixed up. :)

Edit: the internal plastic gas tank.

If it's like the Poulan 2000 I sold recently it will have a plastic tank and exterior. The fuel line goes through the handle.
