This is what I got the info from. I don't have personal knowledge of either saw.:msp_ohmy: Don't shoot me 3000fps, I'm just the messenger. LOL

Gregg,

I was just questioning my own information. I believe I have a cylinder here sitting in my garage for a 3300 and its is aluminium. Plus Mike Acres site I believe lists it as aluminium and I thought I had read in past threads that the 3300 was aluminium.

I looked at your chart and it is correct it is referring to the piston though not the cylinder.

I'm going to have to check. I swear my three saws all have chrome pistons. I know two for sure are 3000's. i'll give them a closer look.

Forgot I had this but interesting it doesn't show the 3700.

Gregg,

How about this:

Both links have correct info on what I see on 3300's. C piston and A cylinders. All I have ever seen on them.

Using the link Gregg posted for pistons finish only, not bore as it states. 3300 3000

Look at the top of second column. Pretty sure it states "bore finish". Like I said, I don't know if its correct or not. ;)

Gregg,

Gregg even though your link says bore/finish it is right for the piston finish on 3300 and 3000. It even says piston at top of page and then bore finish for some reason. I think it is just confusing things.

Look at next link redunshee and it has correct bore finish chart for 3000 3300.

All 3000 I have heard about are chrome bore, alum piston. All 3300 through my hands are alum bore, chrome pistons.
305 335 I have had were chrome bore, alum pistons.

Gotcha, I forgot I had that second chart also. One is for pistons & one for cyl. Sorry for mucking up the works.:msp_ohmy:  Thats why I hate to try answer any questions about certain saws, when I don't own one or have personal experience with one. Just take me back to my old Geezer room now.:D

Gregg,

I have some strawberry and cherry shine left over that will make you forget all about it. ;)

Well not having a life I checked my three saws. One is a 3300 and has a chrome piston and aluminum bore. Measures approx. 1.829 ". The other two are definitely 3000's with Alum. pistons and chrome bore at 1.745". Guess I'm going to have to get some 3300 decals to designate which is which.

I will say though Bob, It wouldn't surprise me at all, if someone didn't actually know what they had! Just go by what it says on the cover.:msp_mellow: Who knows how many times it was "fixed up" over the years. Parts got from something else to keep it going.

I recently made up a saw for a friend of mine, that cuts with me. All he has had, is a couple Wildthings. It is amazing though, just how much wood he has cut with them. He was kinda wanting a bigger saw. But doesn't have the money for it. So I made up a saw for him with whatever parts I had that could be used, and bought a couple items, and gave it to him for Christmas.

I made a saw with the crankcase from a Craftsman 3400, P/C from a 4000, old style rear handle from a 3400, that I drilled out for the larger screws & counter vibe parts I had. Recoil & top cover are from 3400, 4000 top covers should be black, I think. I put a 4000 air cleaner setup on. It has a 3400 muffler with couple holes drilled in the front. LOL And a 4000 clutch cover I had.

So its a bastardized conglomeration, that somebody would be hard pressed to figure out just what model it is.:D Here are a few pics of it. This would keep a "Poulan Guy" guessing for a while to come up with an answer.

Gregg,

Gregg did you have to modify any parts to install the taller 4000/PP375/PP395 AF cover and 4000/375/395 AF onto the saw with a 3400-3800 cylinder cover?

I didn't know they fit either till I swapped one and found out they do.

No mods at all. The filter & covers will fit them all. If the covers were more available, I think I would put them on all my saws of that series. But save the original 3400 & 3700 covers for historic reasons..:D
