Joe, A while back I was working on one of my S25's that would not run.
It had no fuel lines, so I put new lines in, following you & Marks tutorials..
The saw would run briefly if I poured some fuel into carb, but would not draw fuel into carb. It was a walbro 324 I believe. I got a kit for it, was ammazed at the extra parts in that kit.
I took special care to take it apart and put the new parts in exactly like they came out. LOL After I finished, nothing had changed, the problem remained.

Just new, it had to be something in that carb. Took it apart again, was checking everything I knew how. Was checking a couple of the gaskets etc, something just didn't look right. Couple of the little "flaps" on one appeared to be in the wrong place. I turned it around so the little flaps on it looked like they were actually doing something..lol Put it back together, and by golly it ran Great!

I think someone ahead of me, did a carb rebuild, and messed up the build, and I just kept putting it back the same way..LOL

I'm not saying this is the case with yours, but ck to make sure gasket and diaphram are in correct order. I think if their reversed it will cause problems.
Some times its just simple things like that, and easily overlooked.

Good luck with it Joe!!

Gregg,

Joe, what needle was out 1 1/2 turns L or H? Set your both of them out 1 and see if that helps. You might be flooding the saw. Out 1 will at least start the saw then you can tune from there.

I would agree with Scott on that. 1 turn out on both needles to start, is what the manuals I have seen call for. Has worked well for me.

Gregg,

I also agree with 1 out for that saw, but 1 1/2 out isnt flooding it to the point of gas running out the muffler.

Sounds like the inlet needle valve is not sealing to me. I had one doing the same even though it was new. I replaced it with another new one and no more trouble.

Fixed

Thanks for all the advice guys. i pulled the carb off and apart in 3 minutes (another reason why these saws are the best to work on). Turns out the metering lever was too high. did the straight edge test and it hit. I bent it a bit and now its all set. But now Im nervous about the gasket sealer I used on the base of the cyl. I have no Poulan dealers around. wheres the best place to find a base gasket for one of these?

What did you use for your sealant and why are you nervous??

I used permatex ultra copper gasket maker. I just don't want an air leak from using it. I probaly just paranoid

Joe, I have made a gasket for these very easily out of cardboard from a Pepsi carton.:) Beer carton will work also! lol
I hold a piece of cardboard just big enough to cover the base of the cyl. and use a ball-pein hammer to lightly tap and mark the gasket to mark it, then cut it out with exacto knife or such.
Souds odd, but it works well.:) You could buy sheet gasket making material also from auto parts store.

Maybe the little spring popped out while he was assembling it. That'd do it. They're kinda hard to see sometimes.

Needing some help tonight. Working on a 3400. Came to me not running. I put a new fuel line, filter, and carb kit. The saw idles great. When you hit the throttle it starts 4 stroking and then sounds like it's missing and chugging. I'm leaning toward coil going bad. I let it idle for a few minutes and she purrs right along. I can turn the H idle just about all the way in and out and it doesn't change. When I rebuild the carb the metering lever was adjusted properly. So I'm stumped. Could the coil be gapped to high causing this?

Well I put another kit in it and still the same thing. SO I decided to tear the carb apart again this afternoon to investigate the issie and with some assistance from my 3 year old we made a big mistake.... needless to say when I grabbed for the saw that he pulled off the bench, I dropped the carb and busted the fuel inlet valve right off clean..... so does anyone have one they want to get rid of??? It's a Walbro HDB or any information on how to drill the rest of the inlet valve out and put in another one?????

4000 completed

Here it is completed. The metering lever was set too high and thats what caused the flooding. I also have to thank Ohio Gregg for the nice decals he made! It has a 16" Windsor bar on it. If it wasnt such a nice bar Id scrap it, but for now it will work.

Good lookin 4000 Joe:clap:
Glad ya got the carb issue figured out, and got her running. I agree too, that ya hate not to use a bar like that, although a 16" is my least favorite bar to run on these saws. Just feels so stubby, but it does get expensive putting new bars on them. I use 20" & 24" on the 4000, no problem with either.:)

Gregg,

First one of these I have seen

I went to the local Friday night public auction and found this 25DA in a different color and brand. At first when I seen it from a distant I thought the Poulan green paint had faded. Not the case. It's a Skilsaw rebadged poulan. I have seen Skilsaw 3400 Poulans but not the 25DA's. The saw is in real good shape. A new fuel line, and filter and a quick carb cleaning had it up and running.

Yup, one good looking 4000 Joe. Re your gasket material, I use Dirko HT all the time. Now to be honest I don't run the snot out of the saws but haven't had any problems so far.

Congrats on your fix Joe. I've run in to a different problem on my 3700 I recently got. Rebuilt carb and saw runs like Sh&&. Spits, sputters, bogs at full throttle and won't idle. Was concerned it was a saw issue but borrowed carb from a running saw and it ran great. Carb holds pressure so it has to be something small, like the metering needle, etc. Out of town this week but will try again next weekend. BTW compression check came out at 160. Never seen one as high.

Real nice find blackoak:clap: Looks to be in excellent shape. I see its a counter vibe model too. I have 3 S25's, none with the anti-vibe features,
If I were to use one of them on a regular basis, that would be the way to go I'm sure.:)
