Here's the rim set up. The thicknesses were taken with a vernier

The spur setup

There's obviously some wear on the washer that goes behind the spur and first in the drum on the rim setup. (same PN)

the pto end is the exact same size but with half the threads, the 5400 has only 1/2" of threads while the 5200 has 15/16" of thread. i did measure the bores and they are the same. a little over 2"View attachment 285458View attachment 285459View attachment 285460

Maybe Mark can clear this up as he has worked a lot on this series. I know the 8500 calls for a different drum but what the difference is I don't know. Any chance yours may have an 8500 crank / motor in it? (jeesh, talk about grabbing at straws)

Here's a Benchmark branded 2300.

The 8500 crank is larger dia, but the same length.

And your right, the 8500 used a different drum, race and brg because of the different dia.

this may be a dumb question/answer to my question but you need a left hand thread tap/die to run down the threads correct?

what i am doing now is using a lot of oil and slowly going down farther and back off each time i screw the drive plate on, it seems to be going down a little more each time, also the drive plate was only rubbing just enough to make shavings. i will report back soon.

thanks guys this one has be stumped,

Me too but its because I'm not sure what the problem is your having, and not having it in front of me to look at.

ok, so i did the on and off thing several times with the drive plate and it seemed to go on a little more each time like i was cutting more threads are cleaning it up some, i put everything back on and she is good to go now. it is dark and raining so tomorrow is the day i will try and fire it up.

I can tell ya this, i pulled the rope a few times and it has some serious compression, thanks guys and i will keep you posted.

Did I miss a chainsaw in there somewhere. :msp_sneaky:

No, but that is a chainsaw carving graph.
It kind of goes up and down depending upon what the politicians want to achieve to gain their immortality. Thankfully our illustrious gov't repealled the long gun registry. Seems it didn't do anything except create employment. Imagine that.

While I am not a Poulan afficianado, I do have a PP405 that currently has only 75 lbs compression. It is in the same range (cc-wise) as the 8500, but is from a later era.

Its clear your certainly not a Poulan afficianado.

Your PP405 is not in the same class of saw as a 8500 is seeing that its 20cc smaller and probably weighs close to it.

It really isnt from a different era either as it might only be about 4 years newer.

Is the plug wire on a tranformer for 2 piece ignition on a 4200-5200 Poulan removable/replaceable? One of my saws with this style ignition system has a bite taken out of the plug wire about 1/2 way between the transformer and the plug cap. I see on the 5200 IPL that the plug wire does have a part # (separate from the transformer), so I'm hoping the wire is removable. I gave the plug wire a twist and it didn't "unscrew". Was a bit timid about it, since I wasn't sure if the wire was removable however...

Thanks for any guidance. Also...........Mark I believe you sent me a Service Manual for the 4200-8500 CounterVibe saws.........but I can't find the damn thing. Would you please send me the SM again? Thinking I lost it when I had computer troubles last year

#39065 part plug wire?

Yup. 530039065 is for the plug wire w/o the boot.

5200 Spark, or lack thereof

Good Morning All:
My 5200 has no spark after a long rest. I have replaced the transformer with a NOS piece but still no spark.
I have traced the wires, all seem good, dosconnected the on/off switch still no go. Is the only other piece left to replace the ignition module?
Any other options I am missing?? All help is appreciated. Frank
