Kostas,
My 4200 has crankshaft side to side play as well. I'm not sure how much but I could put a dial indicator on it if you like. I would guess around 0.25 mm
I doubt that is an issue.

Thanks Tim,i think that mine is around there as well.I didn't write it correct. The bearings are indeed a press fit to the cases.i meant if the crankshaft is a press fit to the inner race of the bearing.I think that the play is between the inner race and the crankshaft but i assume it is normal.

Kostas, If I remember right, I think Poulan had some special tools for bearings & seals. But I just did mine the "redneck way" and used a large socket that matched them and drove them out. Installed the new ones the same way. :D Just go slow and watch closely to get them at the right depth. Worked for me.

Gregg,

Thanks for the tip Gregg,i did the same thing when i replaced the bearing on my 306A.Nachi made in Taiwan, nothing against them but i prefer the Japan ones. They've screwed up everything

Gregg,
I've done the same thing on my 3400. If I had to do it again, I'd heat the case and freeze the bearing. Understand its much easier this way.

I've used the heat and freeze method on my ATV wheel bearings.
Ususally doesn't make ot quite a drop in but turns beating them ( or hydraulic pressure) into a few easy taps.
Bearing in the freezer over night and the case heated to around 150F.

Gregg,

It's good to see you around Gregg. I was wondering if that cold weather was keeping you extra busy.

Tim, It don't take much to keep me busy. ;) Havn't posted much recently, but check the group at least once a day, so I don't get left totally behind and in the dark..LOL Been busy lately it seems feeding wood in the furnace. I hope it warms up a bit soon. This is gettin old in hurry. Think I have 1 1/2 cord left out at the barn. Gotta haul some more in to the house later this week. I have 4 Ash logs laying back by the woods, that I took down in Nov. Looks like I'm gonna have to get that cut up & split yet before spring.

The neighbor lady called the other day. Wanted to know if I had any wood to sell. They are running low and are to elderly to cut their own anymore. Well, at least more elderly than me..LOL I'd like to get them some yet too this winter if I can. The old Poulans are gonna get a workout if the darn weather breaks some.

Hey Kostas..I read you had a sizable earthquake over your way. Everything OK? Or was it caused by you running your Poulan 4200? :D

Gregg,

I have friends south of you in Cincinnati. I can't believe how cold it's been down there as well. I hope the cold weather breaks soon for your sake and those around you running out of wood. I'm getting sick of it as well.
I may have to break out the long pants if it doesn't.

I know that some folks here collect Poulans saws rebadged for other companies. Do any of you include Craftsman saws that aren't Poulan? I mostly mean the lesser known Craftsman such as Redmax (which IIRC was assigned an incorrect 358. prefix by Sears) and Solo.
Yeah Chris,
I'm interested in getting one of those Craftsman Redmaxes. The one I'm referring to is the Model # 358362180 that is essentially a Yellow version of the Redmax 400/4000 called a Craftsman Professional 40cc. I actually just got one off eBay recently, but it has a bunch of busted parts that are cost prohibitive to replace with new ones. I have a donor Ryobi 10532 I can probably use to make it a runner, but even if I paint it yellow, it won't be an exact match.

PM me if you want, AS doesn't seem to be sending me alerts any more, at least on this thread.

I am the frozen geezer today. Propane company didn't deliver after I drove 400 miles and paid $50 to have the drive plowed. Tank was 15% They waited 5 days and called and said they couldn't get in the drive, drifted shut. I drove another 400 miles and I blew snow till 3 in the morning at -14 tank was at 5% Couldn't get it done was hard pack and 5 foot deep at the road 2-3 foot everywhere else so paid another $50 to have it plowed. They came at 6 tonight and delivered 150 gallons in my 500 gallon tank. I had pre paid for 700 gallons at less than $2 a gallon but they would rather sell it to people who didn't pre pay for it at $5 a gallon. I spent $150 on gasoline and $100 on plow fees, drove 16 hours got 4 hours sleep and worked for 4 hours in -14 temps running a 8 hp snow blower, not something a 64 year old guy with a 12 year old quad bypass and an artificial hip and one bad hip should be doing. So I spent $250 and 20 hours work to get 150 gallons of propane that I had already paid for. I am one pissed off frozen and today once again gimpy old geezer. The propane guy said he was doing me a favor by delivering 150 Gallons. t is a good thing I didn't have my 45 with me. I would have 3 squares and a warm pace to sleep.
sorry just had to vent....

I should add that when I had a heating system failure about 5 years ago it did $85,000 damage to my house and 5 months for the repair. I am probably oversensitive to these issues. I loose a lot of sleep over it.

My SS C.O.L. doesn't seem to reflect the 250% increases in propane. I think I got $19 a month. My house is 49 degrees. I think I need to shoot somebody in the face to get some attention.

Jesus!!! I know this cold weather has been rough on a lot of people, but not like THAT!!!
Sure hope you catch a break soon, Stephen.

Gregg,

Im in the same boat Gregg. Just cut what I burnt last year, and I only have about 1/2 cord left. Nothin' do me but to sell a cord earlier this fall.
I do have some ash cut up, but not split. Hopefully some of this snow melts, and the ground stays decent so I can get back to it. I swear I will burn until June just in spite of this weather, who knows I may need to anyway. lol

I think that I was watching that one on eBay, the missing parts kept me on the sidelines. Those Redmax/Craftsman are pretty rare. IIRC site sponsor Terry / tlandrum is a Redmax dealer.

I have a Solo 651SP/Craftsman in route, should be delivered today. I probably paid too much, and I need another 50cc class saw like I need more bills. To keep this Poulan related, I might have to let go of the PP4620AVHD or PP295.

Jeff,
Funny how ya think your planning ahead, then that gets thrown out the window. Last year I used 3 1/2 cord. Winter seemed to drag on, but wasn't nearly as cold. So this year I had 4 1/2 cord for my own use...thinking I would have a plenty. ( NOT ) One fella I supply wood for wanted 4 cord. He has one left here right now, so he will probably need more also. My sisters BF Kevin heats with wood also, and does his cutting here. He's down to 1 cord also..LOL So the Poulans will be singing here before long I hope. But there is no way I'm gonna battle the elements as they are now, snow covered, froze to the ground, and colder than Billy be Damed. As long as it gets somewhere up around the freezing mark, or preferably above, before this old geezer gets to it.:D

Gregg,

You seem to have a Canadian winter down there. Those that heat with wood north of here (not too far, about 2 1/2 hrs) go through 7 - 8 cords / winter.
I hope it gets back to normal soon for you guys.

Wow what a pain in the neck. I think I would own a good tractor or something to keep the road open. 85,000 dollars in damage can go a long ways.

Here's one for you guys. Nothing to do about chainsaws unfortunately. The other night we had some super strong winds, 45mph+. With the blowing snow & cold, found these things out in the field. Mostly back in one field north side of a woodlot. There was a picture of one of these on the front page of our newspaper the other day, they called them "snow rollers". Some kind of freak weather phenomenon they said. I'm 60 years old, and I can't remember ever seeing them before. Weird sight...LOL
