OK thanks guys,
1. Yes fuel spraying back from carb. I will have to double check this reed valve

2.Have tried several gas caps

3.No spark screen

4. I will try 2 full turn on both needles.

Will report back when done. Thanks again

Lee

OK - checked the reed looked fine, no bend or distortion

opened up the needles

Still starts right up on prime and you can see that the fuel pump is working but still only runs for 20 seconds. I even put my thumb over the carb and it was still WOT until the prime ran out. So I guess it must be the seals, can't get air anywhere else.
And the carb is not putting out any fuel which may just be protecting me from a lean situation.
I think these are generic seals fairly widely available?

On a happier note the Poulan Pro 3516, that I was given is running great. Looks like new!

Evening update - so I got her(2300) down to her underwear and can see both seals. While nosing around, as you do with underwear, I discovered what looked like fuel oozing out of the cylinder gasket. I'm thinking this could be my air leak. I'll replace seals and the cylinder gasket while I'm here. Hopefully I can track down the seals tomorrow locally. :givebeer:

Thanks again for the assistance.

Hi Roger,
As I seem to living in a Poulan vacuum right now I couldn't resist it. It's really, really nice 266XP. Built in October 1998.
On a Poulan note. ATV season is approaching and I tuned my PP295 up and cut some ice storm ash firewood today with it. I would say it doesn't have the torque of my 285 but what a great trail saw this will be. It runs like a top and cuts really well for it's size.
I'll send you the pics of the orange saw in a PM.
how u likin that 266? just got one couple mo. ago, has nicely replaced 570 I had... made a full wrap out of 2 1/2 wraps last w/e...

Here are a couple of picsMLNA0002.JPG I'm not sure what that slotted feature is just above and to the right of the crank shaft. It seems to be removable. I'm not quite sure how I'm going to get the seals out yet.

i bet the check valve is good you can see oil around the oil tube...... seems to me when the are bad that area is always dry......check valves are hard to find.......i replace the oil lines on any i get to run......and the foam in the oil /meter /pump behind the metal plate......yea that a tight lil area i can be destructive.....so i have not pulled any yet... i may try it on a burned up saw first ...... see if i break the case.....and how easy they come out......
