rebadged 2300 and pioneer 1074

Gonna go see these tomorrow. Going as a pair. Know how the PP180 works so we'll see how the red version runs....

Think the Pioneer may be a walk into uncharted territory, may have to venture into the pioneer forum. They seem like nice guys too. Any one have any comments on them (the saws) would be welcomed.

Joe, maybe in the cut, that would be good. I think 10,500 -11,000 out of the cut is ideal. Not too lean or rich. Most of mine tach out around that area.
Bob

I agree Bob. The saw sounded like it was running a bit rich.
Also Im picking up 2 saws tomorrow in a deal that sounds almost 2 good to be true. Its a bit of a ride but I will NOT pass this by. Hopefully I'll have pics of them in the back of the truck this time tomorrow.

Paul, your right, those Pioneer guys are a bunch of great guys! I'm sure you will get alot of good help from those experts.

I can tell you a little about the 1074 though as I have one myself. My opinon of them are that there a nice well made saw. I would describe it as mild or vanilla.

Mild to start, mild to run and mild to cut. Probably as dependable as they come as well. Just nothing exciting about them. Those plastic air filter covers are the only blemish on a well made saw though, most are broken and replacements are hard to find. That cover is probably worth most of what the saw is worth.

That little red saw with a chain brake looks nice! We don't see them with brakes very often

Don't lead us on Joe! :bang:

I know how your luck is and its pretty dang good so good luck to you.

I'll be waiting for your pictures.

Looks like it might do more than a heard of termites...lol. It wasn't that clean when I packed it. Orange is your color, Mike. Lime green is Ok, but that Allis green or whatever looks like the saw ate a bad chile or something.

some of the nastiest motorcycles on earth are painted lime green.

My Pioneer looks just like that one, but the ign has been hacked.

I want to post the models but Im too superstitious that Id jinx myself! Its nothing major like a 5200 series or bigger saw tho. I dont want to give false impressions.

As promised

The 1hr drive was well worth it. Picked up a nice 4000 and real nice 25 Deluxe. For $40 I had to get them. The 4000 feels like it has good comp, but I havent opened it up at all. I was told it runs, but that statement means little to me as I go thru all my used saws anyway. The clutch cover is beat and looks like it was repaired with an epoxy. That will be taken care of...It has a 16" Windsor on it which I might keep since I have the 20" on the other 4000. Otherwise the saw is in good shape. If 1 4000 is good, 2 must be better!
The 25 was a pleasant surprise. Its in very good shape and is an early model. It has the sliding switch, 1/4'' chain and Mark or Mike correct me here, but since its a "deluxe" its manual and automatic oiler? It also has the cast muffler, not a stack like some very early models and not the steel like later models. Its missing the rope so its all ???? for now but I have a feeling it will wake up. Also of note on this saw is the Black sliding switch and vinyl wrapped handle. Every 25 of this vintage Ive seen has a red switch and unwrapped handle. Hmmm.

Picked up a few saws this weekend one is a like NEW 2000 top handle and the other is another 306. The 306 will run but as soon as I put it in the wood it dies out. Any idea's? I gave 25 bucks for these 2 saw and another which was a good deal.

Hmm is right, but we find out more and more that Poulan changed things around from time to time, so the black trigger means nothing. My Allis Chalmers 75 which is a 2.1 manual oiler has a black trigger and toggle switch.

That 25D would be a manual oiler, a 25DA would be a auto oiler. Lots of early saws had plain handles.

John, you know the routine on those 306's. Check the fuel lines!!!!!

If the fuel filter fell off the carb screen is probably plugged as well.

Just so you guys know I have been having some good luck resealing those old tank gaskets with Permatex Moto Seal.

You got to let it set up some before you reinstall the cover.

Yeah right, I don't see anything...Probably got two wild things...:blob2::laugh:

Interesting. The other thing i noticed on this saw along with the black parts is the "greener" paint. the other 2 25s i had were the more yellow green, a whole different color closer to your green Chalmers even.

I agree Steven, not a bad 2 saw plan at all.

Craftsman 4000 saws

Does anyone know the part #, and were these sold as gray, at the same time the 3400 and 3800 saws were sold??

Thanks!

Jay

Picked these up to ease my itch

Thanks for the responses and comments Mark and Joe. Went for a drive and picked them up. The pioneer1074 looks complete (air filter cover complete, 1 crack)and has spark. chain wore and ground to a nub, looks like it was might have a battle cutting butter. Its toast Came with a new spare though.

Dropped some premix into the craftsman 2.3 and it roared to life, that's good. Compression feels lighter than my PP180...Mix match of non poulanish nuts and bolts holding it together. It also has some anti vibe on the front handle bar. Will check Acres site to see what it crosses over to in a Poulan model. Unless u guys here chime in before that happens. Rougher shape than I expected ( or wished). But I love having the chain brake

Those nice green ones Joe25da just picked up make me a little green with envy.
Deal was about as sweet though, $50 with 2 new chains, electric hedge trimmer, 18 volt screwdriver, and 2 more gas grass trimmers (5 now and I have no lawn just pine needles!) .,,But I really want a nice big Poulan So will fix up what I got and keep the eyes open, should keep me out of trouble for awhile; lines, filters, carb kits the standard overhaul/renew regime. I know where to go if problems arise

I believe that one will be the same as a 2300 Poulan.
One of the many "Micro" series saws.

Mike

Thanks Mike ya sort of looks like the 2300av, has no back anti vibe.
specs say chrome piston vs my other PP180 with chrome cylinder, we will find out in the morning light when I start a more thorough check, (sort of wanted a running parts saw, kind of a living donor when needed lol) Boy they had a lot of different flavours with little changes here and there, need my computer when looking them over in the field

Boy, parts for the 4200 or 5200 are hard to find. You can get a gasket kit with crank seals on Ebay. Saw one today. Other parts well, keep looking or possiblt find a parts saw. 530032034 is the part# for the crank bearings. Maybe you can pull one and take it to your local seal and bearing dealer to match it up. Normally they are a production item used in other applications.
Bob

I picked up a 5200 today with a cooked piston, the saw did not look beat on at all, it has good spark, covers, muffler etc. so if you need parts let me know.

I'm looking for Stihl 020 and 011 stuff so trades could work.

As far as I know there were no 4000 versions sold by Sears.
