Just wanted to post a couple pics of what I been up to the last week or so.
I managed to fell and buck up a number Ash & Oak trees using nothing but a couple old POS Poulan junks.;)

They all ways started easily, worked flawlessly, and sounded good doing it. Didn't have to toss the things through the woods and cuss a blue streak at em.
I'm not against New technology, or new saws. But I think I will just continue cutting with my old Poulan POS junks, that put a smile on my face, while reading the rest of the AS chainsaw forum battles between the Sthil, Husky & Dolmar folks, on which is the only saw to run.

Gregg,

I got a box of those cover mounted hand guards, most were for a PP325 but they maybe the same, I'll have to look.
Ok great keep me updated...

My saws have both styles. I prefer the ones mounted on the cover too. The handles with that style usually have a different type of foam on the handles too.
Without the guard on the handle seems to give ya a little more hand room, when working the saw at odd angles.

Just have to watch ebay, that style pops up occasionally. If I had an extra, I send it to ya.
Gregg,
Yep i looked all over ebay and that chainsawr.com didnt find one either.

Gregg,

Very nice Gregg. The 4000 is a truly awesome saw. Yours look new. Ill be using mine Sunday maybe to cut up some maple and oak. Once I dig into my "new" 4000 ill have 2. The "new" one had a 16" windsor that I might keep on it. My runner has an nos power match 20".

Now that's how it's done Gregg.

Thanks Andy, ;) Guess I just wanted to blow a little steam. LOL
But, doing that in this forum, is kinda like preaching to the choir, I know.

Before I joined AS, I did a search on here about parts availability for a 3400.
The very first thing that popped up was a response from a Sthilhead, I don't remember who, to some bodys question about a 3400. "Don't bother, its just a $100 box store POS".

Being an admitted Poulanhead, It gets tiresome at times being the so called low man on the totem pole. But, I have seen some different attitudes emerge over the last couple years for the better.:)

I don't bash or bad mouth ANY brand of saw. I Love my 385xp, and think its a great saw. And if I owned a Sthil, I would probably say the same. My point being that these 20-30 year old Poulans and some older than that, will cut wood and get the job done just fine. With out spending an arm & a leg on the latest & greatest that companys today have to offer.
Gregg,

Anything from 5200 and up is JUNK! Nothing but wasted metal, and our scrap dealer is paying the highest for scrap, so send them to me, and Ill send you your profit!

PS- The 5200 runs great, just need to source some bolts

I guess I waisted my money on this 5400 then....NOT good luck prying it away from me thats for sure.

They can say what they want!
I'll say the same thing about the Poulan saws that an old fellow told me about Allis Chalmers tractor a long time ago....
"Son you can't buy more horsepower for the money with ANYTHING else"!
A saw comparable to the 5.2 Craftsman that I bought the other day is going to cost you $800.00+.
And the saw that is comparable to a $75.00 3400 or 3700 will be around $500.00.

Mike

I might know where a 5200 is

This guy is one of my old buds, has a lawn mowing & tree service company.
He has a boom truck too. I could ask if he wants to sell the 5200, I stopped by to talk chainsaws the other day with him, he showed a 031 Stihl and a plastic
Poulan. I suspect that is not what he used filling his dump truck & pull
behind trailer.

Id say your 100% right about that Mike. On this thread we all have known the truth about these saws, and their quality.
Its funny too. I posted the pic below on a truck forum Im on. The first response was "nice saw man". Theres a guy who knows saws. The secon was some jacka$$ who said, "Haha why you showing a picture of a Poulan? Get a stihl then post your pic". Wellll that got my attention. I stated that clearly he must own a mythical MS290, aka "the real mans saw", I then wasted my time explaining to him about his big, heavy, homeowner plastic fantastic saw.
Turns out he did in fact have a 290 and replied "whatever". The moral of the story? Theres always a moron out there thinking that because you have a poulan it is (a) Junk
(b) weak
(c) bought from walmart
(d) cheap
Until you fire it up....
PS this is the picture of my junk, weak, walmart, cheap Poulan 4000 that is not nearly as good a saw as that guys FB. Thats rock hard white oak in the truck that somehow the saw managed to cut too:dizzy:

Maybe you had a half of one too many Mark;)

Gregg,

Wow... beautiful...absolutely beautiful...and the wood looks good also!

I love my 3600...heck I love all my saws...but I will tell you one thing the 3600 keeps up with my 455 and all of my buddies own farm bosses, I love to pull out the 3600 now and let it rip...it use to bug me when they bad mouthed her...but it is funny how a few days of watching her rip has silenced the group!

But boy oh boy...I think I need a 4000 now...yikes they are nice looking saws!

I hope the other members realize that these saws are not a POS!!

On a side note guys...is a decent 4000 hard to find ? I am in Ontario

Oh and wish me luck...my first project saw officially starts tomorrow...The "Wild Thing" project.

They are VERY hard to find for sale Colesy!
Most of the people who own them know what they are, and aren't in any hurry to part with them.

But they ARE out there!

You've just got to look long and hard to find one.

Mark, you drank beer and I got toasted? The 'net is a wonderfull thing.
When I get home, I'll toast you with a shot of Beam. That would be, what 0830 your time?

One of the little guys works just fine, the other needs the fuel system go through. dang if they aren't easy to work on. I need a set of dogs, I'm giving one to my Bro, he has only partial use of his left arm, dogs will help keep it in the wood.

I'm happy to own one of the most underrated chainsaw brands on earth. If you can get someone to tinker with one and cut with one, they will go screamin' green.
