Just another 4000....

I feel like Gregg here! This one isn't as nice as his or my other one but its a runner now! This was easily the dirtiest saw Ive come across. I bet I dug a pound of dirt out and that doesn't count the clutch cover cause that was busted and I threw it away, had I cleaned that Id be at 2 pounds! I put the clutch cover from the other 4000 on this one since that one wears the fancy french one now. I gave it a good cleaning, lines and crab kit. The bar is in decent shape and its a Windsor so Ill keep it even ho its only 16" the chain is lousy safety crap so it will be swapped for some Oregon LGX. The first pic it it next to my 3.7 which now wears the MM muffler. the last pic is my 2 4000s.
As I got it

Cleaned up pretty good Joe. Sure had a lot of crud in saw.

I know many of you guys are probably getting sick of another Poulan 4000 post from me.:D But, I can't help myself. Here is the latest one to be put back to use.

I plan on using this one as an everyday work saw. So, I swapped mufflers on this one with my "ModifiedMark muffler". ;) Saw runs excellent! The only thing I want to change at some point is the flywheel. Some monkey broke one of the fins off while trying to work on this at some point. I really can't tell by running it, but still bothers me..lol

Gregg,

Gregg do you need a 4000 flywheel or a 3400,3700. Don't have a 4000 but do have extra 3400's etc. You're welcome to it if you want it.
Bob

I'll take em!

Bob, I was more or less just saying to watch for them that are being scrapped, and grab them off of them. Seems like lots of brands used them.

Yes I have had my share of trouble with those gaskets for some reason. I have tried different types of gasket material as well. Best fix seems to be regular gasket material and give them a thin coat of #2 permatex.

Good luck with the paper bag, seems its best for hauling groceries. See above, all these new sealants but the old standby #2 permatex works best.

306's are great, buy you should have went and got that 245A

You hit the nail on the head, The paper bag leaked like a sieve. Made another one from regular gasket material and will pick up some Permatex #2 tomorrow. Have Dirko HT but that didn't work.

I have used file folder for gasket material before...it worked ok..with coppercoat on it.

well tried the coil mod it worked but heard a rattle after a few seconds cant beleive the saw started so easy... anyways it ripped the aluminum plate????the dude said 1/2 inch stock wont that put it to high??? uggg think i will just wait and buy a parts saw off ebay thats solid state and then i will get the extra parts any ways here is the pic be fore idrilled the holes and tightned it down least i know it was the coil for sure!!!

Man your having some problems there. Don't get in a hurry a coil will turn up sooner or later.

I didn't think I had a electronic coil but I looked through the pile but I dont think theres one in there.

I thought I had picked up a new one but when I looked I forgot that it was a 306/245 coil.

Joe, The saws look great! Thats what most of my saws looked like also, at one time. Its amazing the crud that needs to be cleaned from them.:D But, I think all the crud, sometimes preserves a nice saw underneath!

I don't NEED one Bob, But thanks for the offer though. I might have one for a 3400/3700, but the 4000 uses the different style dogs on it. If I happen across one, I might snag one. I honestly can't tell when its running. The thought crossed my mind to knock one off, opposite the one allready missing. LOL
But decided that was probably a stupid thing to do.
Gregg,

I don't have a clue about those. lol But, a place called Sugar Creek Supply I believe has them for the 5200. He might have made some for the 5400 also.??
Sorry I don't have a link for ya off hand.:dizzy: Maybe Mark knows the link.
Gregg,

Yeah I know how to get ahold of him, the easiest way is through that other site.

Just do a google search and it will come up.

I'm afaid to say much more though as to be promoting a non site sponsor. I'm not sure where the line is on that rule.

BTW, nice bunch of 4000's you guys got going on there! I only got one, am I odd or something? Wait better not reply to that one.

I did change the fuel lines on a S25DA today and posted another how-to on the main fourm so it can be found in the search system.

How about that, I got the lines in 2 saws done now. Only 40 or so more to go! :bang:

Just had too much other stuff going on this weekend, but I did get my new plow mounted on my truck and that was no 10 minute job! ;)

I also got another saw today, a Husqvarna 141. It was cheap and it was made by Poulan was it not?

The thing needs a little TLC, but it should be a good one. Seems really choked down, I think it needs a Modifiedmark muffler on it! :hmm3grin2orange:

Gregg,

You are right, but as a last resort you could use a 3400,3700 recoil to mate with the corresponding flywheel. Not OEM but workable.
Bob

nice write ups!!!

real nice write ups on the fuel lines for the 25s mark did its on the 2nd page i think its better then the one poulan puts out!!!!cant beleive nobody saw that one!!!!!

thats funny

We saw it. Just that we expect so much from Mark. I would have preferred a DVD.

I think the folks that run the sight should send him some free parts for such a detailed write up!!! errr sponsers yea thats the word....

Gregg,

Gregg, come on! I go snowmobiling every Feb in VT. Last year I could have put vegetable oil on the slides and rode on the grass. I need snow , at least in VT. Lets toast a cold one for that event.
Bob

P.S. I haven't had much luck contacting that site. Need to persevere as in "The Outlaw Josey Wales"
