Wow, nice saws everyone. That 3400 with the banana bar sure brought back some memories. Mine had a 16" bar too. Boy this thread moves fast - I am going to have to read back.
I have just finished cutting up a bunch or red gum with the 375 and I am hot! First because it is 35 degrees C outside (that is mid 90's F) and second because that little saw really cuts. I have lots of saws in the 60cc class and this Poulan is right with them. I tried it against an 034 Super, a 361, a husky 61 and 365, a Shinny 577, an Echo 610 CVL and even my old Partner S65 and only the 365 beat it convincingly. I initially thought the Poulan was a chain store saw but it is the real deal. I gave it a muff mod and tweaked the tuning to make it a little fatter and that is all.
Goodness, it looks like I am going to look a little harder for some Poulans.
BTW, I tried a little 50 cc saw against this lot and it was not embarrassed - see if you can see it.

Sorry for the off topic saws but I figure this little dime store 375 can hold its head up in pro company. BTW, if Poulan can make saws like this why has it spoiled its reputation by specialising in throw-away saws for the chain stores?

Yep, Great lookin bunch of saws you have there! Even that fellow in the middle with the Shriners hat on. :D

Gregg,

YES, Dry is my preference too!! :D We will just say, for now anyway, that the weekend of May 7-8 will be the date. (subject to change) LOL

Still have some logs back there. Will probably cut a few new ones also.
Really enjoyed having you ole Poulan folks here for the first one.
Will have to check on booking the musical entertainment! but I hink that won't be a problem.;)

Be good to see all of you again, and some that couldn't make the last one.
Have to twist Super3's arm again also. lol We will allow Sthils to cut next to the Green.

Sounds good to me, I'm marking my calander. I'm sure super3 will be there if he can be. He seemed to enjoy himself.

Where might this be? Last time I was in South Bend I think it took me 13 some hours ha

I've got an old Poulan 44 bow saw with the original bar & chain. It's my entry into collecting... can anyone tell me anything about it? I'm especially curious about it's value in case I want to trade it with another collector.

Let me be the first to say welcome! Is that 44 up and running? Be carefull coming around here though, the saws tend to mulitply at a high rate of speed.

Yours is a common question when new guys come around here, but not easy to reply to.

Old saws just are not always in demand, and your 44 is not a gold mine. You have to find the right person at the right time. Kinda like selling a house, theres one perfect buyer for everyone but you just have to find em.

Seems me myself, I do better tradeing most times. Value isnt much of a question as long as both are satisfied with the trade.

Well that's nothing then, Gregs place in Ohio is probably only another couple hrs from south bend.

That one you guys had last year was one that I really wanted to attend. If you have another, let me know, I just might make a weekend trip out of it.

Shoot, I just noticed that Sunday is Mothers Day. Don't know if that creates a conflict or not. Might have to try the following weekend.

Gregg,

That won't bother me, but it might be best to change it for others.

Poulan 3300's

Well finally gotr the two up and running. One came with a 20 in. bar and safety chain. Comp is 170 and it runs real good. May have to rebuild carb as I have to pull it 7-8 times if it sits for a while and cools off. The one w/o any bar had a slightly scored piston and cylinder. Cleaned them up as best I could, flipped rings and comp is around 130. Actually starts easier than the other, but I did rebuild the carb. Opened up muflers a bit, which seems to help but a good chain would help more.
BTW any you guys ever use the Pferd sharpening system that sharpens and files the rakers at the same time. I picked up one up from Baileys and I like it.

Good lookin pair Bob! So far, I been able to resist buying them small, to midsize Poulans. There so tempting though.

I have one of those file set-ups. When I do one by hand, thats what I use. I bought a grinder a year ago or so. So I usually use that these days.

Gregg,

Don't do it, you know what happens then. LOL

I actually like running my 3300 better then the 3400. I know I shouldnt have said that out loud though.........

LOL, Truth be told, I found myself running the daylights out of my Super 380 this summer. I put it though heck this year. There is something to be said for a light saw, BUT, That being said,I'm not ready to give up my beloved 4000 any time soon. or 5200!

Gregg,

My son and I will be at the GTG again for sure. Maybe my younger one also he don't know yet LOL!

I don't have to many saws left but I'll bring what I got.

3400/3700/3800/4000 series vents

I tore the whole saw down today and cleaned it and went over every inch of it. Its gotta be that fuel line. I did make it shorter poured a full tank in it and it fired right off and idled none of that bogging crap.

So yall are saying i need to pull that fitting up to the top of the tank? I also noticed when its full it leaks out of those holes in the tank for the fuel line i think it only does it on the vent one. Could i use a sealant or something? Would a small engine place have a duckbill valve?

Also i tore the handle apart! What a mistake i cant seem to find where the spring goes? Can yall point me in the right direction. Thanks.

there should be NO fuel line IN the tank on the vent line! it's a short maybe 4" line with the duckbill attached, the other end is cut on a slant to prevent it from sucking itself to anything, and it is installed by pushing the angle cut end thru from inside the tank out, and pulling the duckbill tight into the hole. No glue or goop needed as it will fit tight. the loose end goes over the top of the tank past the kill switch out of the way.

I would have to look but may have some duckbills in stock yet if you can/haven't found yet.

8500's

Clay, Most of us would give our right arm, or most of it any way, for an 8500. But if you think a 3700 is to heavy and to hard to find parts for, you don't want a 8500.:hmm3grin2orange:

Gregg,

I Love my 8500, I have a 36" Windsor bar on it just use it for the big jobs.

Gregg,

I'll sure try. I've got a bit better way to transport the bunch I have this year and many new ones. I do have a heritage festival in southern VA that weekend, so as usual it's decision time. Hope to see all of you again! :yourock:

Welcome, Cattailforge! As Mark mentioned, that 44 won't make you rich, but I've had the opportunity to work on a few of the old sand cast saws. I do like the gear drive/bow saws like your 44. It takes a different breed to work on these older saws but IMO they're "Poulan simple" while presenting their own unique challenges, especially the FB starters and the HL carbs. Welcome to the forum!
