Dave, isnt that the one you just got that needed fuel lines and such? Is it up and running?

She sure did clean up nice! You can tell that saw was not used much.

I like that muffler mod. I did one like that on a Husky (fancy Poulan) 141 not long ago. I heated the area that you bent up and pulled it up a little farther in the back with a old screwdriver while it was cherry red. Gave it a little more area in the back of the "deflector" that way.

Those mods like that are nice looking and most folks who are not accomplished welders can do that easily with only a propane torch to use to heat it up.

Nice looking job you did on it.

You know what, I was at work and couldn't wait to get home to weld a pipe on so, I positioned the muffler housing on and anvil, sharpend my chisel, and sliced it open, then used a pair of linemans pliers to open it up. At some point in my life I'd love a TIG welder at home, I got Lincoln 140 MIG but the TIG is just awsome.

Yes she runs nice, I used the Oregon tygon line, luckily the duckbill survived although all the line's were gone. I had the saw down to just the cylinder and crank case. I touched up the bumper gaurd safety chain with a file and let her rip. Cuts surprisingly good for safty chain. The bar is hammered as small chips are missing out of the lower rail and the chain rocks side to side, so a B/C is in order soon. Probably gonna go with an Oregon 20" Power Match and a 72LGX chain.

Don't get me wrong at all, I wasn't criticizing, quite the other way! I was glad to see that mod, because thats one that lots of people can do themselves.

I just wanted to add that a simple propane torch can help it even more.

I got a tig rig here at the house just never took the time to master it yet. I'm sure I can and its on my to do list. Sure would be great to do my own magnesium welding...

Oh no, I hear ya Mark, I never even thought that.

Yes this is an easy mod, anyone with a hammer, torch and chisel can do it. Actually I didn't use the torch, and now that you mention it, it proabably would have been easier. Lol

yea baby!

After all these years I finally broke down a few months ago and bought a tach for working on these newer rev limited saws.

You don't need no tach for your little gems!

I think its about 3 1/2 hrs for me, but I'll be there unless theres and emergency between now and then. When you start getting older the chances for emergencies does increase. :rotfl:

Well, I hope so, I'll pick you up in Chicago midway if you need me too.

If they don't let you bring the saws, I'm sure we could rustle up a couple somewhere for you to use. :hmm3grin2orange:

Mark thanks but I was kinda kidding. I fly to Boston so I was making a funny about the saws on a plane. I'll have to see exactly how far away the GTG is. I've driven 10-11 hrs no problem to see my MIL.

Yiks! Well 10-11 hours to a chainsaw GTG would be a picnic! literally :hmm3grin2orange:

Gregg,

Here is a video of a Poulan 4000.

<iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Yjcr8fF8520" frameborder="0" allowFullScreen></iframe>

Great video! Thomas, That is music to my ears. That looks to be a 24" bar on that. A 4000 with a 24" bar will quite honestly take care of my wood cutting needs. But, its nice to use the 5200 on the really big stuff, just because I can..:D

I'm with you there, man. I've got plenty of hand tools and a torch.

I almost hate to ask but... does the intake and exhust porting result in real engine improvements? Or is it just fun?

This is an old lousy video of a 4000 I cobbled together with spare parts, with a 24" on some swamp white oak. The camera is sitting on the stump. was 36" tree where I made the felling cut.
