base settings

ugg im ready for bed! one more beer hehe! anyways the base setting i found for the 4018 is 1-1/4 turns both adjust from there.. and for my saw is 1-1/2 turn each adjust from there. since i opened my exuast i will stay a lil rich on the H but i think the low is good a 1-1/4 for now will see once i get it to where i think its dialed in.. i will try to post a video see what the real experts think if i hit it or not! Nite ya all!oh yea one more beer!

I finally got a chain for the 71-A and its bow bar. I wanted a semi chisel but ended up with a full chisel.

It takes 3 hands to get the chain on this thing, trying to get it over the clutch drum, the upper guard and the lower dogs all at once. :msp_tongue:

It looks funny with the bucking spike on it but dont want to take it off yet as I still want to try the 21" with the 8 tooth sprocket on it yet.

I guess we will be losing our Guru over to the Mac thread now!!!:msp_mad:

Nice lookin' saw Mark!

Starter spring lube

I just cleaned the starter spring, on a Super 250A, lubed the shaft, where the pulley rotates, and put everything back together. It pulls fine, but has a hellava squawking sound when the rope is being retracted back into the saw. Should the spring, itself, be lubed, too? Also, sometimes it seems to slip, when pulling, like it's not grabbing. Everything is clean and moves freely, though.

Mike

I don't care what it says on it, its not a Mac! :bang:

I just hope it works out and it should.

Mark, The 71A looks great with the bow on it, and is probably more often seen with a bow on them, than not. But, I still like it better with a long straight bar..

Gregg,

Gregg, I will probably like it better with the straight bar on it as well, and I guess you really dont see them with the original Poulan 31" bar that much either, thats what I really liked about it.

Over to your place was the first time it was sunk into a big piece of wood and till that time I had to say I really didnt think it was that special when I had only had it in maybe 12-16" wood. It didn't slow down at all in the big stuff did it?

I just couldnt pass up the oppertunity at this NOS 17" bow setup!

Who knows I might come across another saw that needs it more. I would like to find its gear drive brother the 72 and maybe a 91 or a 92.

Assume your referring to a S25DdA. I spray a little lithium grease on the spring but not sure its necessary. If it slips I'd check to see that the spring is firmly attached to the recoil housing. Additionally is the pulley in good shape? Check to see if the plastic gear is intact.I

Nice hat Mark.

I see you're a "husky" (not Husky as in Husqvarna) guy too. Gotta get me some overalls....

Thanks for being gentle with me. Personally I don't know why anyone would wear anything else. :msp_thumbup:

Especially if you intend to hang around with us REDNECKS!!!
Ya gotta have the proper uniform!LOL

Mike

Sounds like I'll fit right in. I found three Scouts and an IHC truck the last time I mowed the back field!

Nice finds!

Nice finds!

It helps that they were right where I parked them a few years ago!:jester:

I was 'gentle', because I'm a bit 'girthy' myself. I do the suspenders thing with jeans, but overalls are the only way to fly when you're working. I've gotta order the gaskets and seals for that Craftsman 2.1 you sent me. Thinking about going with Motoseal for the jug and omitting the base gasket (as others have done here). That guy on feebay hasn't had XXV gasket 'kits' listed for a while. He's had Micro, 3400-4000, and 361 kits listed.......but not XXV's. I may have a couple of 25CVA's in need of rehabilitation coming my way soon too, so I guess I should order a couple of each gasket. Can the crank seals on these saws be swapped out without splitting the cases? I won't buy case gaskets if I don't need 'em.

Most of the 25 series gaskets can still be ordered seperatly, no problems there and most are easy to make anyway. The seals can be installed from the outside as well. Brad came up with the generic # for them but I can't find it right now. Maybe you can PM him and he still has the numbers.

I would love to know when you get the Craftsman going!

What year was the truck???
I always loved those trucks.
As a buddy of mine said once when asked about them by a kid...."Homliest S.O.B. on the road....but there ain't nothin' tougher"!!!

The truck's a 1971 IHC 1210 Travelette (4-door pickup). 4WD, with a 392 V8 an an IHC/Fuller T-34 O/D 5-Speed manual. It's an ugly old beast. My Scouts are a 1974 and a 1967....plus a couple parts rigs for the 1974. I really want a 1964-1974 IHC Loadstar or Cargostar dump truck. Had a 'free' one a while ago, but the guy's wife made him scrap it before I could make the trip to go rescue it from their property in Georgetown (by Auburn). Had the scrap guy just haul ALL the junk from the property at one time..:msp_ohmy:.

I have a rancher friend who owns a 1956 IHC S190 2-ton dump truck. Was originally some sort of military rig. It's a BEAST. The original IHC has been replaced with a Chevy 292 six. BIG PTO winch. He also has a 1954 Diamond-T 10-wheel dump truck. It's even more of a beast, and is powered by an IHC LV549 gasser V8. Redlines at about 2900 rpm. Has a direct-5th 5-speed and a 3-speed Brownie sub-box (low-direct-O/D). He's the guy that got me hooked on the Old Homelites, and gave me my Craftsman 1.9/Poulan XX (hey, on-topic content) many years ago..............since it wasn't a Homelite...:D

Cva

Its finally finished! Turns out it was a bad condensor. Lesson learned, I know it was mentioned before but, just because you have spark grounding the plug doesnt mean you have it in the chamber. My tester confirmed that, after swapping coils and switches the condensor fixed it. This is why I keep spare parts and parts saws! This one got the works:
crank seals
base gasket delete, Moto seal.
all new gaskets
carb overhaul, fuel line filter, airfilter, cj8 plug
NOS rear CVA mounts
I opened up the ex. port a bit. This saw was in a saw grave yard believe it or not. Was in too good of shape to pass. So all said and done, 1-1/4 turns on the carb, .017 on the points and it started on the second pull. Just under 150psi. This saw is an animal. Also put on this cool windsor mini pro bar Ive had for a while. I got it of a toasted CVA25 a while back. Thanks for the help with this one too.
As I got it
