Cool, I'm not going as crazy as I thought! :hmm3grin2orange:

They looked narrow at first glance in that picture.

There nice saws, basically the same as a PP365 far as I can tell and I like my 365 alot.

WTH I'm bored anyhow...

Tell me about it buddy...it's been alot harder building my POULAN collection this time around than it was the first time!:dizzy:

I noticed that the 330 has the same looking top cover and filter cover as the 3450's that I have. I know they are the same CC but I have never seen a 330 up close and personal.

If ya had a nice 3700 you could sleep with one of my 330's lol.

Well Mike, we could always start a ''POULAN INCOGNITO THREAD'' and call it the ryobi lovers thread or...:hmm3grin2orange:

Well, it's not green but:

He be a Poulan 47.

What is the 'normal' compression on one of these?

Took a lot of tinkering but now the recoil catchs. Pumps 110 psi with a nice blue spark.

Now to dump the rancid old fuel and find the carb. under all the cast aluminum.

Would this have come with .404 chain?

Nice muffler mod.Have you open up the diffuser?

Kostas it has no diffuser at all. The muffler has been welded up in the back where it had been exiting the exhaust and now comes through the pipe. The inside has been completely gutted except the two pipes the bolts go through to hold it in place. These are sealed mufflers so you have to break the seal and in my case I used a grinder. Then I had to weld it back together when done with the mods.

3000 FPS very nice job on the Poulan Pro! I have a small issue with a Poulan Preditor (throw away saw), The breather tube in the oil tank seems to be draining the oil. When I opened the carrying case last time it was full of bar oil. This was a junk saw that I've given a new life with a few parts. It runs and cuts very well, 16" Echo bar and chain.

Is it true that most of these saws are 42cc regardless of what is printed on the body work? Having just bought a new piston for a 2550t (40cc) it is the same part # as most of the other Poulans (and a Craftsman marked 36cc that I removed a ruined piston) as per the IPLs

Great site, thank for the help I get every day I do some reading here.

Regards,

Thanks. A 16" bar and chain is what I plan on running also on the 295. With the mods that I have made it should work very well and I am anxious to tune it in wood.
The Poulan predator I have no experience with.

Ok i see.I have a 2775 and i also modded the mufler but a little different.I opened up the muffler (God knows what i went through to do that),drill the diffuser a lot, drill the back exhaust hole much more and i closed it back.I will post some pics when i will find some time. These are "one piece" mufflers but if you have patient, the open and close just fine.I also run a 20" bar on my 2775 without problem.

Hey Lee, my PP220 did that once and the keeper on the oil tank cap had pulled the oil vent tube out of the top corner of the oil tank. Just push it back in place with your finger. My 38cc PP220 turned out to be a 42cc saw. The 38cc decal was wrong.

Look for the EPA info sticker that's usually on the lower 'boot plate' part of the rear handle. should state "42cc engine family" or something similar with the actual displacement.

Just sold one of the craftsman 3.7's. Looking for a green one the red ones are very common IMO.

I like the red 3.7's very much. Still looking for a reasonably priced 3.7 in my area. The grey 3.7 labeld 3800's (and 3.4 labeled 3400's) come up on CL from time to time here........but the red 3.7's, 3.4's, and 3.6's (red Craftsman 306A) don't for some reason. Never seen any 4.2/5.2 (4200/5200 in red) around here either. Lots of 3.7 ROPER Craftsmans though. Whe I worked at Sears Service in the 1990's I rebuilt carbs on a few 3.4's and 3.7's, but those are the only red Poulans of that series that I've seen in person here....

I've seen a few Poulan 361's here over the years. I've only seen TWO 200/300 family Poulans in my area over the decades. One was an overpriced Dayton badged 245SA (crunched, and for sale for $150 or so!) at a yard sale five or so years back. The second was an overpriced 306A at another yard sale about three weeks ago. That one was FANTASTIC in the looks department, but felt like it had LOW compression. Seller wouldn't budge from their asking price, and wasn't receptive to the idea of me pulling the muffler cover to check the P/C. No sale. Got a really nice late production 306A with great compression from a buddy a couple weeks later!

Second pic shows the muffler and clutch cover. I've never seen this muffler on a 200/300 series saw before. Five screws. Flat faced cover (no outle holes). Large forward outlet that blasts the clutch cover. Has carboned/discolored the clutch cover pretty good. The hot exhaust gasses have yellowed the paint on the cylinder fins too. Electronic ignition, and Tillotson HS without the governor that we usually see on 200/300 series Poulans. Runs great.

Only needed the bar adjuster screw straightned (prior owner had cranked down the bar nuts with the adjuster pin NOT engaged in the bar holes) and the fuel cap duckbill replaced. PLASTIC starter handle and thin gauge starter rope. I'll be replacing both soon. Is that plastic handle correct for this late saw? I'm thinking it's not...

This 306A came to me with a 20" Windor replaceable sprocket nose bar. The bar has a 3/8" slot, and the studs have an 'S' spacer on them to take up the slack between the 5/16" studs and the 3/8 slot. Bar has oil holes for this saw............AND the adjuster holes have passages to the rail. Never handled a Windsor bar like this. It's like a D176 Oregon bar, but with a 3/8" slot. Is this a UXL/TXL mount bar? I need to look at the Windsor bars that came to me with my XL-series Homelites to see if they have passages from the adjuster holes to bar rail....
