Here is my collection as of yesterday, FINALLY found myself a 5200 at a reasonable price, previous owner put new piston and cylinder on it. I cannot get it to bog in any wood I have laying around the house, Way more power then my 505. Very Very impressed.

I know they made versions of the 3400, 3700 and 3800 but was wondering if they ever made a 4000 version.

IIRC some folks posted that no, there wasn't a Craftsman version of the Poulan 4000.

I manipulated AS search just about every way imagineable, but couldn't get the results I wanted :bang:. And I couldn't get the results to show as posts, only as threads, and that means a :censored:load of reading.

Thanks Chris.

This may be sacrilege, but try this if you can't find it on AS.

Type what you want like " Walbro HBD carb rebuild arboristsite " into google. The results are pretty good.
Any info containing those words will come up on google and take you right to the post. I find it hard as well as AS just takes you to the thread which is pretty tough when you get the whole Poulan stickie.

Results can be made more customized by dropping 'arboristsite' from the above example and adding 'site:arboristsite.com'.

Only www.arboristsite.com will be searched.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for your opinions, gentlemen! I'll make a point of picking it up tomorrow and try to post some pics tomorrow night.

can't wait to see pix. good seein ya marc, hope things are capocetic.

Things are going very well on the farm these days. I just picked up the 3300 and have it in the cab of my truck. I managed to talk them down to $40 because the "off" switch didn't work. The only thing missing appears to be the hand guard that attaches to the top of the cylinder cover. Everything else seems to be in place, original, and undamaged. Compression felt nice but those older saws fool me sometimes because the starter pulleys were smaller diameter, making the pull require more effort. I'll get some pictures and a compression reading tonight.

Thanks Ted. That's good info. Anything that gets you where you want to be faster is a great help. No point keeping all the good info on AS hidden.

I won't swear to it, But, I have never seen or heard of a Craftsman version of the 4000. Don't think they made one.

Gregg,

Thanks guys. I am casuallly on the lookout for another one as I have the 3400 running now but have yet to put it to wood yet which I hope to do today after I finsh some gardening.
I saw a Craftsman for sale which is definitely a red counter Vibe saw and was just wondering.

I frequently use the Google search: Whatever I'm Researching site:arboristsite.com

The above search also only shows me threads, not posts. Google has advanced search features, but I haven't spent much time trying to learn them. The AS search used to have the option of showing posts instead of threads; if it's still there I haven't yet found it.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure that there are posts here stating no Craftsman version of the 4000.

Craftsman 4000s do not exist.
WITH the exception that someone MAY have put a 4000 P/C on a Craftsman.
(And with the possible exception that Poulan may have dipped into the 4000 P/Cs to finish a production run but I'm pretty sure not)
I found out last night that there was a run of black cased "Sears Best" 3750's or 365s. I'd like to have one of those.

Not much chance of finding one of those here in wild thing country but man, is this ever small Homelite country.

Poulan 330 carb

I've got a 330 that's giving me fits. Replaced the carb with a NOS HDA-137. It's got a new carb boot, new impluse line, new gas line and filter and it doesn't seem to be drawing fuel to the carb. Tank doesn't have pressure that I hear when I open it. Does this mean the vent is clogged up? If so do I drop the handle to check it? What should I be doing next?

Is 130# compression enough or is that my problem?

Thanks,

Gerry

Craftsman Poulan

I enjoyed fixing up my 3400 and I am going to look at a red Craftsman Poulan tomorrow.
The lady I spoke with pulled the model number which I can't match up with anything but she said it was hard to read.
The number she gave me was,

358 958 570

Does that number mean anything to any of you? It has a 20" bar and chain which I assume both 3400 and 3700's came with.

I'm hoping it's a 3700 but would take another 3400.

5200 and 8500 crank seals

Has anyone found an aftermarket seal that works in these. I know they're still available, from Poulan, but would be nice to just be able to run to my bearing/seal store to grab 'em......

358 is certainly the Poulan prefix. Not like the deal I got stuck with last week where a guy told me he had a 3.7 18 and it turned out to be a roper:censored:. I felt bad for the guy driving all that way and paid for it out of compassion only.
Usually the 3.4s were 16" and the 3.7s were 18" not like today where they sell 40cc clamshell saws with 20" bars. If it has a 20" it was probably added at some point in the last 25 years. Either way its a good saw.

Thanks Joe. I really like my 3400. Especially the way the gas tanks beeps every few seconds for about two hours after I shut it off. I hope it's saying thanks for fixing me. It runs pretty good but I think I have it running a bit rich for fear of wrecking the P&C. It also has an Oregon safety chain which I think I hate.
I think those safety bumpers add 4 oz to the chain.
