I am still looking for a couple of crank seals for Poulan 3400 - 3700 has anybody ever found a suitable replacement instead of OEM.

I could tell you that easily. If I can find my notes....

Sorry Mark but that number was right above the S-clip.

I don't imagine that "S" clip would be too hard to make...

How about a Poulan S6000? (dolmar 153) 100CC brute?

Does anyone know the part number of the "S" clip that fits over the 5/16" bar studs that acts as a filler? I have one on the 5200 but need one for the 3.4 Craftsman and can't find one on the IPL's.

Is the stud spacing for the 200/300 series Poulans the same as the spacing for the 4200/5200 series saws (so they could use the same 'S' spacer)?

I ask, because the spacing IS the same for the 200/300 Poulans, 10-Series Macs, and the early XL-12 Homelites with 5/16" studs. Same clip fits all three. Opens up some clip source options..

Oops. Read through things again and saw that Fossil is looking for an 'S' clip for his 3400. I can check my XL-12/10-series/Poulan 200/300 compatible 'S' clip on my 3400's bar studs when I get home from work in a few hours (yes I sometimes go work on saws at 1:00AM). I asked the 4200/5200 vs 200/300 stud spacing question since I don't have access to a 4200/5200 saw. I DO have a 3400-4000 series saw to check however.....

I have the Homelite part # for the 200-300 Poulan/XL-12 Homelite/10-Series Mac ( and hopefully 3400-4000 and 4200/5200 Poulan) compatible 'S' clip in my notes at home. Chainsawlady had those clips in stock a while ago IIRC. I think Scott did too. I've found these Homelite 'S' clips with a part # search on feebay in the past as well.

Its a brute ok, heaviest saw I own I do believe.

Let me know how they worked out. I found that the seal walls were so thin that they collapsed very easily upon installation. Now Mark has a good practice of champhering the case bosses to allow for easier insertion. Maybe that'll help.

Any chance you might have a any color non-PS CVA clutch cover?

I have egg on my face! Checked my S25DA parts and don't have a muffler. Saw must have come w/o one . I do have a clutch cover but its from a S25DA not cva. Basically same cover however.

Thanks, Bob, for checking your parts collection..........not a problem on the muffler.....something will turn up I'm hoping.

Regarding the clutch cover I thought it had been mentioned that the S25DA clutch cover didn't work on the CVA saws?? I've not had the time to actually check my two saws to do a comparison. The answer will probably come from this thread before I get around to doing a physical comparison.

The bar stud spacing is the same on the 3400 as the 5200. That would be great if you could check to see if the other S clip would work.

I used a double lip seal I found and it works well and installed easily. I will dig up the PN

Those look like later versions that fit the 4200- up saws.

I have seen some saws with 4 of the solid ones and 2 of that style.

My 3400 came alive today. Randy shaved the cylinder base (for free - thanks Randy) and I played around a little with the ports and transfers as well as the inlet manifold. I just smoothed and widened a little and probably made no actual difference but it filled in my Saturday morning!
The saw had 120 lbs of compression beforehand with new rings.I ran it for 20 minutes let it cool and got 145lbs.

It may increase (or maybe it won't) but I can really feel the difference in the saw and like I hoped, it is snappy. It holds its revs better in the cut and just feels stronger. I am not scientific enough to do timed cuts but I pulled my low hour PP375 out and the old 3400 handled it with ease. I put the guage on the 375 and it surprised me with a solid 133 lbs - I wonder how it would take to a bit of cylinder shaving?

I am happy with this old pair for light cutting - just need a 4000 to round it out.:msp_smile:
