I have egg on my face! Checked my S25DA parts and don't have a muffler. Saw must have come w/o one . I do have a clutch cover but its from a S25DA not cva. Basically same cover however.
Bob

Thanks, Bob, for checking your parts collection..........not a problem on the muffler.....something will turn up I'm hoping.

Regarding the clutch cover I thought it had been mentioned that the S25DA clutch cover didn't work on the CVA saws?? I've not had the time to actually check my two saws to do a comparison. The answer will probably come from this thread before I get around to doing a physical comparison.

Have a good weekend!!

The clutch covers are different part numbers. The actuall fitment issue is on my list of things to check and photograph out in the shop today.

I can probably hook you up with a muffler Myron. Maybe a CVA clutch cover for you to repaint too...

While I'm posting...

Anybody here have the National, CR, SKF, Timken, or any other aftermarket # for the 530019051 crankshaft seal that's used in the XXV saws? I know they're still available from Poulan and Sears, but I'm going to be getting a bunch of other seals from my local bearing house and would like to get some XXV seals there while I'm at it. I doubt I'll be able to keep the original seals in good shape (to take to the bearing house) when I pull them. Those seals are TINY. Worst case, I can measure the shaft dia, bore dia, and bore depth and bring those numbers with me. It'd sure be nice to be able to just give the guy a number to look up instead though. IIRC Brad S listed some numbers for these seals ages ago. He never answered my PM's asking for the #'s, and I just wasted an hour of searching for his old post that has the #'s in it (without success)...:(

Check this one by Brad and Mark. CR seal # there

My 3400 came alive today. Randy shaved the cylinder base (for free - thanks Randy) and I played around a little with the ports and transfers as well as the inlet manifold. I just smoothed and widened a little and probably made no actual difference but it filled in my Saturday morning!
The saw had 120 lbs of compression beforehand with new rings.I ran it for 20 minutes let it cool and got 145lbs.

It may increase (or maybe it won't) but I can really feel the difference in the saw and like I hoped, it is snappy. It holds its revs better in the cut and just feels stronger. I am not scientific enough to do timed cuts but I pulled my low hour PP375 out and the old 3400 handled it with ease. I put the guage on the 375 and it surprised me with a solid 133 lbs - I wonder how it would take to a bit of cylinder shaving?

Alright Nardoo that is about what I got out my craftsman 3800 after shaving the cylinder on it too. As far as the intake and smoothing it out and the transfers and exhaust believe me it all adds up and make a difference. Did you do any kind of muffler mod on it yet?

It has a Modifiedmark extra port on the muffler. Easy peasy with a dremel and a screwdriver. I have been out cutting with it this morning and it leaves a nice old 034 in the dust. Go figure.

Pp 395

This is a PP 395 that I got about 2 months or so ago. It is pretty beat up looking and would not run. The starter was messed up the carb was full of crap and just needed some good attention to it. The piston and intake look good except someone ran it with a gaping hole in the filter and I can see a shiney spot on the intake side of the piston but no scuffing of any kind on the intake or exhaust. Compression was around 125. Well got it fired up today and running pretty good. But since I know how well my 3800 turned out I guess this will now get the same treatment. The engine is around 65cc I believe.

Someone did a real hack job on the muffler so that is going to get corrected. The saw has alot of similiarties to the 3700 Poulans so maybe I can find another muff real cheap.
Thanks for looking.

Pretty good find Roger. There good runners but I have to ask did you do that muffler mod yourself? :msp_rolleyes:

You know one of my other hobbys is restoring old American made pocket watches. It just seems that no matter what hobby it is, there is always someone who has to get in there that has no idea of what they are doing.

I hear ya loud and clear, you ought to see the frankensaw I pulled apart tonight.... :msp_rolleyes:

Dammit, you guys doing all this talking, now I got to pull all my perfectly good running 3400-4000's apart just to cut the jugs down on them. :msp_rolleyes:

Like I aint got enough to do already... :givebeer:

That is a real nice PP395 - nice to see it too has the droopy trigger.:D I don't know much, but hasn't it got to be a 4000? I'd love to find one of those. That muffler mod would be good for igniting the wood you are cutting! I really love the yellow Poulans.

Mark, if you start porting your 3400's/4000's and get to beating up all the modern saws with them you will drive up the prices of them even further. Seems every hobby I have is getting more and more expensive. Had to give up collecting Corvettes ages ago.:hmm3grin2orange:

I went out and compared the clutch covers on my S25DA and CVA. They are the same and one will fit on the other saw.

Al, I really like to preserve my pieces of history the way they were built, so I will leave mine all alone.
If I need more power then a 3400 I will grab my 4000.

That's it! Thanks Tim. Now why the H didn't I find those posts during my searching? Don't answer that......:msp_confused:
...

Would one of you be kind enough to post the part numbers(s) of the crankshaft seal for XXV / 25? When I clicked the link it took me the last page of the Poulan thread, & yesterday I searched every way imagineable with no luck.

Is my memory short circuiting, or did the search function here used to have the option of going to the actual post without having to scroll through the thread?
