Here's what I was given today by a co-worker. Started on about 10th pull after putting in fresh mix. I have yet to start taking it apart, but I was surprised to see a Stihl bar on a Pioneer....or I should say, I didn't know they were compatible.

Nice saw! The Westerns are a little more rare. Stihl bars do fit, but not properly. Pioneer's use a 9.5mm slot. There will be a ton of play in the slot. Great gift!!

Hmmm, outboard clutch...didn't know that. Interesting. Compression reading 145 lb. Adjusted the idle down a bit. Still looking for the H and L screws. Gonna put it in some wood tonight.

Pioneer 400

Yep....

Hey pguy600, I have an old Pioneer 400 which I purchased off my neighbor somewhere around the middle 60's I think it was. Last time I fired it up was possibly around the early 80's. Saw still looks great and has plenty of compression but am sure it would need carb work and a few quirks and peaks to get it going again after all these yrs. of setting. At my age it is way too heavy to use when my Sthil, Polan and Remmington are so light. Where would I find the serial# on this saw?

There should be a metal tag riveted to the rear of the engine cover, right hand side of the rear handle.

Found the serial # on the Pioneer, it is 57795 and the model # is 410 which surprised me, I thought the model # was 400 being it is the number on the starter cover. Any clue there as to the year?

How hard is it to run across the P-50s?

I know Ive seen quite a few P-40s, and I know the P-60s are sought after.

I did see a P-50 at the shop, but it dissappeared to the techs house, and then he says somebody stole it

They show up on e-bay from time to time. I inherited 2 P50's, that's what started my Pioneer obsession. :) They are great saws imo.

Ok Ed. I really wanted to get my hands on the one at the shop, I think it even had a broke crank, so I figured it would be a nice project. But I didnt get it

And beautiful saw Jerry.
