A few new saws for parts. Lookes like they will not run again but lots of usable parts. Two P41's, a P51 and a P61. Both the P51 and 61 have spark.
We recently had a swap meet at a local steam show. About a half dosen collectors. Saws and parts were changing hands and everyone came out a winner. I had the pioneer stuff on the left with some help from a collector from Peterbotough who brought along several saws including a beautifully restored IEL Super Twin 52 that runs

You are right on there brother, I have known Jeff now for a number of years and he has helped me greatly. It was an IEL model AB that got me started on collecting and restoring old magnesium saws, it is restored and a shelf queen nowadays.

P50 help

I'm rebuilding a P50 and I thought the bearings were 6202's. I put a 6202 on the the flywheel side but the 6202 slides right on and off the clutch side. Does anyone know what the correct bearing numbers are for this saw?
Thanks Kevin

Jerry would you know wear i could get parts for an IEL DD I would even buy a hole saw I only need to find a DC & DD to have all the one man saws for my collection thanks Joe

I finally got my old AB pioneer and red p home. The red p has been worked on and has a nice new plug in it. The AB is still in "as found" condition. I was told that one was running recently (I'll assume thats the red p). I'm deciding which I will make into "my project" and which I will send out into the world.

Any pointers for the mix on these things.... isn't it like 16:1 or something like that? Maybe I'm ahead of myself and should see about how i'm going to loosen up the AB to free it all up.

Even if I don't touch them they are awfully nice to look at.

Hi Jeff
That's a great video of the old IEL!What a great restore job by Joe!
Lawrence

The thanks goes to Joe for sure
Be sure and check out all 4 videos
Twin, IEL Super 52, Beaver and a Riteway
Joe picked up the Riteway at the show from graindrillman, he had about 60 saws at the show for trade or sale.

Ok, I read the service manual 5 more times and I found the 6202 bearings I removed so I'm sure I've got the right bearings. Am I correct in thinking the flywhel side bearing is a press fit on the crank and the case and the clutch side is a slip fit on the crank and the case?

Kevin, The one P50 I split the case on was like that. I'd run it.

P61 - 36"

will a p61 run a 36" bar ,Its time to go play in some big stuff...

No problem, especially with full-skip, full chisel chain. When we ran 36" and 42" in Washington State 30 years ago, I used a 2100 Husky. Some of the other guys used P61s. I didn't know it at the time, but they probably had the better saw.

I'm sure I could bury a 36-incher with my old P51 at 10,000' altitude, if the trees were that big here in Colorado. Old Pioneers are the only saws I have any more - for good reason.

Have at it!

Thanks for the reassurance ED, I'm going to put this clean P50 crank into a clean P51 case that had a rusty crank. The P51 case had the letter E stamped in the case above the spike and embossed on the crank weights. I'm not sure if this means anything special. The P51 crank is a press fit for the bearings on both sides of the crank which had me weary of the P50 crank.
Kevin
