Pp525

My Poulan Pro 525 arrived today, bought it as parts. started out as I bought a P/C off ebay then asked about the rest, bought entire unit minus screws bolts.
525 is BOOST PORT!!! same as the 655bp, not the third transfer type like 405/455. It is 100% the same as the p52 Plus West Coast Upgrade Kit as show at Rottmans site. I have seen this kit in person!!!
Exguast is raised ALOT compare to 52/62 cylinders, no bridge, cylinder made by Giloroni, Emab Canada, transfer are Extreme twisted to promote turbulence, and very small chamber.
Metal reed!!! thought it would be fiberglass.
WJ20 (yuck)
Crank was covered in white deposits but came free easy with weak WD40, no corrosion to case, no rust. time to split it and new bearings seals gaskets. (all I have)

1.) Just want to know if the pioneer 1200 has a .325 sprocket option? if so please give me the part number.

2.) Also what other saws have the same sprocket as the 1200?

3.) Need a K095 B&C for the 1200... Or chain specs for #4 below.

4.) I have a 20in Pioneer bar with number 473796 on it? anyone got the DL count and guage for that bar???

It is possible someone put a 655bp top end on it, measure the bore to be sure. Good luck with your Pioneer / Partners- Poulan Pros I love em, just had UPS drop off my third P45CB today.

might have answered question 4... I got the origional chain dug out of trash (about to be picked up :bang:) anyhow I measured 050 guage and 70DL... so might be able to get a chain for the oem pioneer bar but it might be a lossing battle since the bar is pretty far gone... even after dressing it... These didn't require low pro did they? I was going to throw a loop of full chisel on if I went that way...

Can anyone answer 1 or 2 for me???

Nope its a 525, 2.06" bore (52mm)
UPDATE: found a hole between oil res. and crankcase looks like corrosion, so its parts at this point. could have it welded but we'll just leave it for now.
BECAUSE I have a complete 525 enroute from AS member tomdcoker. So the wait game is in effect.
I'm still kinda dumbfounded about the boost port 525 thing, the piston doesn't have the cut out notch for flow like a 655bp does?????? the 655bp cylinder is the same just bored more, this thing has THICK cylinder walls (for boring) and is heavy. INTERESTING!
525bp WHY are they not labeled as such?

You're telling me some things I've been wondering about. Does the 525 piston have the cut-out like a 655 BP? So the 52+ upgrade kit had a boost port? Your 525 is gonna kick some tail when you get it all together! I'd like to run my old P52 against it. If it were to get whupped, so be it.

As busmech mentioned, your 525 (52.4mm bore) isn't a big ol' 655 (57.1mm bore), is it?

Thanks,

Jack

Thanks for more interesting info.

525 cylinder versus 405

Pics of a 405 (third port) through exguast and 525 Boost Port, as seen from cylinder bottom. also interesting that this saw had factory sealer over the WINDOW between tanks and on a spot in oil res. (as seen the the pictures of case, red hard stuff)

also picture of 525 piston WITHOUT the cut out notch for flow through the boost port.

Jack to answer the rest, YES the 52+ kit had the boost port and piston pin thats sealed on one end. THIS is the same but without the SDC 80 and foam filter that came with them. It has the updated rod bearing too, same as the kit. This saw made made after 90 as thats the casting dates I've found. Emab Canada still.

It's possible that not all 655BPs had the piston with the open channel. My IPL shows both, although the straight piston may be for a straight 655. Dunno. I'm sure you'll let us know how your next 525 is set up. Keep us posted!

Yup, that's all new to me. I was only (recently) aware of a 1985 version. Thanks.

The boost port is not that uncommon. I have P52 and P62 jugs with the BP. The cut out piston was a later design. The early 655 boost port saws had the port with a standard piston which worked some. Later in production they improved the function of the port by cutting the side of the piston.

THANK YOU!!!! thats what I thought too, I'm working a deal for a later 62CBW but it has NO boost port but has sealed end wrist pin, can't figure that one out, guess its all just LUCK with these. I can see the 655 boost port being shallow after the boring it to the larger bore and the reasoning for the channel in the 655. But I think a 525bp needs it too but don't think theres enough material to work with on the piston.

Thanks. I've never seen inside a 525 before. Haven't seen the outside of one either.

Thanks for more info. That coincides with what I THOUGHT I knew. Do you know if an open-channel piston was used in any later 5-cubers? Maybe there wasn't enough piston to work with, as Timberdollars suggested.

Pioneers are pretty rare around here - though for no good reason. A guy with a tree service (I've known him since he was a kid) was working on a neighbor's trees with his Huskys when I showed him the 655 I was filing:

"You always have liked them oddball saws, haven't you, Jack"

"Tell you what. The other guys might laugh at you, but once you ride a fat girl, you're spoiled for anything else."

405 tear down and clean up PICS

pics of the 405 teardown and clean up (not really, was very clean) and window fix. was going to split case but saws to nice so JB'd it. Non third port saw.

405

The dishes I washed today aren't as clean as that.

Funny part is I really didn't clean it, only dirt/dust was between handle on bottom, clutch flywheel were not even blow off, no scratches on bottom. there is a chunk of handle missing on footbad though. very clean saw.
