I believe this old girl is scored just based off the feel of lack of compression. Pioneer NU-17

Hmm... looks real familiar for some reason...

What are gonna do with it?

Are you offering the parts book, brochure and signs? I can be at your place tomorrow by suppertime-ish. I got the twin late summer. Since then I've sold 3 saws. Haven't replaced them yet. No urge to...I know it sounds crazy but that's the power of finding "the one".

Joe - I can see about saving time but I hope your option isn't really a good way for me to save money. I could put a lot into this restoration and still be under $2k. If that's what it costs maybe I've underestimated what it's going to take. That being said I'll check with my wife. She may want one for herself. She says my saws are stupid but on the inside I know she's jealous of my twin.:hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:

:msp_biggrin:Im very happy for you that you have found one . Just having fun .I dont want to sell my twins . If I did it would take a good chunk of $ for me to part with them . I can hardly wait to hear yours up and running Darcy  PS My wife thinks the same as yours lol

Questions about my Partner R-420T

Hello all, looking to get a ballpark range value of a Strong Running R-420 with nothing broken or scarred up.
I know this is a question that cannot easily be answered without photos, videos, etc. (I'll work on that this week after work)
Also I bought the Saw from Original Owners daughter with manual included.
might be looking for something with parts more commonly available to trade for....

Does the metal oiler gear go back on the crankshaft centred over the plastic oiler gear in the pump? I know the manual says to set the gear with the seal installation tool but I don't have one of those.

Centered certainly makes sense. Can't remember how I've done it - likely just pounded it on w/ a piece of pipe. Maybe I could see marks from where it was before I pulled it. Do you have another saw on which to get a measurement? I can check one if you're stuck.

Thanks for the wakeup call. I must be getting old. I'll check my Farmsaw.

Well I'm not sure. I would like to get it running and sell it, but If it's a bear to work on, I really have too many other things to focus on right now. What are yalls thoughts on it?

sweet saw. now you need to give it some character scars by cutting something.

If you want to come over in the summer and hold the helper Handel I will make a video . I have cut with them before want to make a new spike up for it a little paint of the bar is no big deal they are fun to cut with .There no speed demean lol it would be great fun at a steam show :msp_w00t:

That is a great saw for restore. You said it would be easy to start. All the hard to find parts are there and in excellent shape. Can't waite to see it restored. It will be a nice one for this years shows at Lang and Athens.

That looks like a good show to take in. From the photos it appears the grounds that hold the event has lots of shade trees. Does anyone exhibit chainsaws??

Yep, abot 70 acres of shady Oak trees there. They have had chainsaw exhibitors in the past, as well as a steam engine powered sawmill.

You cannot believe how large some of the old steam-powered tractors can get!

Shade is a must at some of the mid summer shows. Always nice to visit a show in a different area or country. We do not see as many steam engines as we used to at our shows. They are very heavy and hard to move. high cost of transportation. Our goverment regulations do not allow much steam pressure. Don't know the exact #PSi but it is low compared to what you are allowed in the US. I have been to a show in Canandaigua New York, they are very impressive to see under full steam.
Our local show in Athens, Ontario is the following weekend.

At this past summer's show, one of those VERY large steam tractors was maing its way down a long, gradual incline toward the arena for the afternoon 'parade' they have. About halfway down, he lost his brakes. Had to roll through the arena and up the gradual incline until he released enough pressure to go slow enough to put on his parking brake.

Ted, if you go this year let me know... maybe I'll hook up with ya.
There's one in Pontiac IL, it's huge, I went last year and going back this year. I brought home 3 saws last year. I think 1st week of August???
