I expect if you pull the flywheel cover off you will find oily sawdust packed in the cover and the fins minimizing the cooling effect. Boiling fuel is a pretty common issue on older saws since the fuel tank is essentially a part of the crankcase and get pretty warm. Anything you can do to promote good airflow will help.

I just had the cover off the other day because the clutch was slipping. Turns out the springs were impregnated with black sawdust. I did give the whole area a cursory clean. I'll go back in and confirm.

This is all good to know. I'm basically a saw newbie because my ms362 has always just worked and this P20 just fell into my lap. Learning as I go.

Thanks.

Hi Fellas . Hope you guys are all well !Amazing just Amazing ! This thread still going strong . It,s been a long time since I checked in here . I’m sitting in a ferry line up on Vancouver Island for the return trip home and thought I would check in . Most of my saws are long gone but hung onto a few and I’m semi retired so might get into a little tinkering

Really good to hear from you,Lawrence. Still a few active members still on here, hope all is well with you.

Can't comment on the Farmlite saw but the NOS starter cover listed for that saw on feepay doesn't look used to me. No wear on the starter post or spring area. The exterior of the cover does look pretty shelf worn and tossed around.

Got one of my 1073s running today. Fuel lines and filter were shot. Rebuilt the carb, new air filter, new plug, and some fresh fuel, fired right up! Did a pressure / vacuum test too and it passed. Pretty cool little saw.

One thing I noticed is it sure oils a lot. Is the oiler adjustable or fixed?

That fuel screen looks pretty clogged. Good thing you opened it up. Good catch! I don’t think you can adjust the oil output on those models. Better to have too much in my opinion. At least you know its working 😀

Looks like someone left the fuel filter on too long and it started to fall apart. The carb filter screen caught the remnants. I replaced the fuel line too while I was working on it.

The carb is odd. It only has a L speed screw. No H screw. I looked it up and apparently it’s a fixed high jet. It runs good though.

It oils like crazy! I guess too much is better than too little like you said.
